From funny to sad, a must read for ecdysiast lovers!,

This review is from: The Naked Eye: A True Account of a Stripper's Journey (Mass Market Paperback)
This San Francisco dancer has written a very personal, almost diary like account of her experiences stripping, from when she first started as a waitress to her ups and downs in publishing her book. Many people have always asked what living the life of a stripper is like. Well, this book gives you a pretty good idea and then some. From her detailed accounts and character descriptions, you will get to know Shay as well as the people she came in contact with as if you were right there with her. It reads like a Judy Bloom book, but with an obviously different subject matter. There are many funny, interesting, and sometimes even sad and brutally real accounts of strip club life through the eyes of this real life stripper. At 375 pages, this is not a short book, and if given the choice, we may have cut out a couple of chapters. However, this is definitely one good read.

I enjoyed reading this book as it was a quick read and had a lot of interesting stories, many of which went from one or two paragraphs to one or two pages. The book really provided a unique look at what goes on behind the neon wrapped doors of an exotic dance club. From the emotional problems to drugs to friendships, it's all in here. Quite enjoyable.

She's unbelievable witty! I had to put the book down several times to just guffaw. I love it that the brains appear from behind the bimbo mask. What a warrior this woman is. What a world to live in.

If you wanna read about her boyfriends...,

This review is from: The Naked Eye: A True Account of a Stripper's Journey (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is okay, interesting at times. But the author spends WAY too much time writing about her various boyfriends (biggest collection of losers I've ever read about).

An good and insightful book into the life of this impressive woman. A dancer and artist in the body of a stripper. I met the author in a San Francisco club, and she talked me into buying her book. I'm glad I did.

How a long-legged beauty views the job, boyfriends, life.,

This review is from: The Naked Eye: A True Account of a Stripper's Journey (Mass Market Paperback)
I've been watched, talked to, and occasionally dated strippers for twenty years, but I still had a lot of questions in my mind. Like many girls in this field, she is independant and practical in many ways, while at the same time prone to wasting time involved with guys who were obviously going to let them down. Shay's mainly different in that she has kept a journal, eventually learned from her mistakes, and she occasionally borrows style from, or draws analogy with, elements of classic literature.
