3.0 out of 5 stars TV Versions had alternate/deleted scenes
It would have been nice if the DVDs included the alternate/deleted scenes from the TV versions. I remember watching "33 1/3" on TV once and seeing a bunch of footage that wasn't in the theatrical, video or DVD versions. There were some really funny scenes that explained or payed off scenes that are in the original version. Oh, well, maybe someday when or if they release...

This review is from: The Naked Gun/The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear/Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (DVD)
For those of you who are worried about getting this set because it might not have the special features from the individual Naked Gun discs, don't worry. All three movies in the set have the same commentaries and trailers from the previously released DVDs. So not worth the double-dip for those that have the flicks already, but for the cost conscious new buyer of the Naked Guns, a great value for three great movies and all the special features from before.

When I saw this DVD, I thought "No freakin way". No way was ALL THREE Naked Guns on ONE DVD. But sure enough, it's true. I love these movies, and to be able to pay 18 bucks for all 3, and on one DVD, was an easy decision. This was a great buy, and no way is it a disappointment. If you love the movies, you love this DVD. Obviously. But shirley I can't be serious? Well, I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Comedy's, January 4, 2012
This review is from: The Naked Gun/The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear/Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (DVD)
The Naked Gun movies have got to be some of the most funniest I have ever seen. For the most part it is clean comedy yet there are some adult situations in them and think the PG-13 rating is pretty fair. It is hard to say which part, 1, 2 or 3 is better or more funny so I would put them about equal. I think the mix of cast really adds to it's success as well and how they picked the cast would be interesting to know. Overall if you enjoy relatively clean language/action comedy and have not seem them, try them out and see if you agree.

Great movies in three different dvds, the only problem is that they are not in widescreen as advertised. They should have also included more special feautures in addition to the trailers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great DVD package to remember Leslie Nielsen by, December 3, 2010
This review is from: The Naked Gun/The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear/Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (DVD)
In the beginning, there was "Police Squad", a daffy, dizzy sendup of crime drama shows by the team of Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker. Debuting in the summer of 1982, it only aired six episodes and folded. Why? "Because you have to pay attention" was the response. Television was clearly the wrong venue for this type of "Airplane"-inspired spoofery. And so, "Police Squad" got a second life on the big screen...and renamed "The Naked Gun".
As with many of the "serious" actors who appeared in "Airplane", Leslie Nielsen was reborn a true movie clown...and he clearly loved his new job! The more straight-faced he delivered a one-liner or a sight gag, the funnier he was. Here, Paramount Pictures has done the smart thing & packaged the entire "Naked Gun" trilogy into one nifty case.
Starting with the first NG (1988), bumbling, clueless Lt. Frank Drebin proceeds to investigate a plot to assassinate the Queen of England during a visit to L.A., wreak hilarious havoc on baddie Ricardo Montalban's office, romance Jane Spencer (Priscilla Presley), and somehow save the day during a baseball game. "NG: The Smell of Fear" has Drebin lonely & heartbroken over his split with Jane. Meanwhile, an eco-villain (an effectively oily Robert Goulet) plans to sabotage an eco-friendly energy proposal for his own gain. "The Final Insult" has been deemed a notch or two below the first two films; maybe it was just too much of a good thing. However, it's still leagues funnier than other lame comedies trying to do the same thing. Drebin is retired & domesticated now, enjoying marital bliss (sort of: they're seeking counseling). But when a dangerous criminal (Fred Ward in a tour-de-force of all those old gangster movie roles) schemes to break out of prison & targets a major event as a terrorist act, Drebin relishes the chance to go undercover to unravel his plans. Some of the jokes we've seen & heard in the first two; the real draw is the climactic Academy Awards ceremony, which Drebin disrupts in hysterical fashion.
The supporting cast is inspired: Presley is surprisingly good as "straightwoman" to Neilsen's buffoonery; George Kennedy serves a similar role as Neilsen's superior; and yes, even O.J. Simpson deserves some credit as victimized Norberg, before Simpson fled (unsuccessfully) from the law in a white Bronco. But ultimately, these movies belong to Nielsen. To go through all the crazy moments in these films would be like writing a novel, so I won't bother.
Thank you, Mr. Nielsen, for all the belly laughs you gave me with these movies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Leslie Nielsen at his best, April 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Naked Gun/The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear/Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (DVD)
The fact that these movies have been continuously featured on Comedy Central attests to their lasting humor. Granted, Nielsen's humor can be mildly crude at times, and it is smart to watch it first before letting your kids see it, depending on your family standards. However, I feel that the Naked Gun trilogy were some of his best works, aside from cameos in other movies. I highly recommend this to anyone who either knows or doesn't know Nielsen's sense of humor, simply because it is worth seeing someone like him before you die. Airplane 1 & 2, in my opinion, don't quite measure up to these three films, and I have yet to pick a favorite from this stack. I can tell you that it does make a great gift for anyone that grew up with his humor, or were part of his trek through movies, or even for young and old alike.
