Naked Brilliance!,

This album was first introduced to me when I was a little girl and it captivated me even then. A master of the piano, Margie Adam knows how to bang out soulful yet whimsical melodies and each masterpiece on Naked Keys makes that talent abundantly clear. For those who will only purchase one solo instrumental album in a lifetime, I would wholeheartedly encourage Naked Keys. After one listen to these works of piano genius, you will feel utterly at peace yet calmly asking for more.

A Peaceful Place,

"Naked Keys" has always held a special place in my heart and I'm sure those who listen to it, hear it in their own personal way. For me, the music has always been kind of bittersweet. Plaintive yet hopeful, it conjures up memories- some real and some imagined. Sort of like discovering a dusty trunk in your attic filled with old family photo albums and seeing the sepia toned images of your parents or grandparents in their youth. Their is a sense of connection and also a sense of loss. Again, this is my own personal interpretation of this beautiful music. This is what I hear.

I owned an LP of this album back when I was in grad school over 20 years ago (the album was originally released in 1980). It was my most-frequently played record--new-agey, and good for studying or meditating to--but it's not only background music: it makes a good attentive listen, too. Compared to similar solo piano artists (e.g. George Winston), I find that Adams music pulls at my heartstrings more and is more memorable. I gave away my LP album 10 years ago when I got rid of my record player. I'm so pleased to have the album still available--I'm buying a CD copy and expect to get plenty of use out of it again, just as I did back in the 80s--I listened to the samplers and these classic tunes still resonate.

I first heard a sample of Margee's music as a tune being played between news stories on NPR. I tracked down one of her recordings and now it gets the most play of my CD collection. The music is a soft, accessable piano jazz with a hint of folk. Most of the tracks have a slight melancholy to them but they are very pleasant, much like a walk on an early fall day. Very enjoyable.
