Book Description

September 28, 2009
With mounting debts, threats from a crazy landlord and a cleaning business that was going well until she set fire to someone's house, Jools Grand is about to find herself homeless. She has to come up with a plan, and fast. So with an acute sense of desperation, Jools decides to auction herself online in a marriage of convenience. Who knows, she might even find romance? What Jools isn't banking on is a bidding war between two not-so-eligible bachelors - a wealthy, gay, would-be politician who needs a wife as a cover; and a deranged loner with a newly-refurbished basement prison. Add to that a lecherous father, some soon-to-be-exposed secrets and an addiction to pastries, and Jools is set to discover that nothing comes without a price.

More About the Author

Hi there. Thanks for checking me out. I live and work in and around London in the UK, and work in publishing in addition to my 'real' job as an author. 'Naked in Knightsbridge' is my first novel, with 'Marrying Out of Money', my second, due to be published on Kindle at the end of November 2010 (and in paperback in mid 2011). By the middle of 2011 I hope to have my third novel, 'Anti-model Agency' ready for editing. For those who don't already know, my hobbies are eating pastries, drinking red wine and hanging out with my two gorgeous daughters and rapidly-aging hubby.

I love the Shopaholic series and this came up as a suggestion for something similar so I decided to go ahead and purchase!

I must admit on page one I thought "oh no".....a bank letter just as one would find in the Shopaholic series. I thought this was going to be an uncreative copy cat and did not have high hopes!! But I kept on reading and within a few pages I was hooked! This book was funny, had various different threads to keep you guessing what was going to happen in each scenario, and made for a fun and lighthearted read! I was reading on a plane and I was so into the book that I found it hard to put down when the "turn off electronics" announcement was made so I ended up reading later until the wee hours of the morning!

Its a perfect 'chick lit' type book! Fun, an easy read, contemporary...though I did wish the main character would put down those Hob Nobs just once as her ever constant munching was a bit much, but it had a good plot line and wrapped up everything just perfectly so I decided to purchase her next title and hopefully will have another good review to write!

Not worth it!!! July 22, 2011

I read constantly and love chick lit for a bit of light relief- I've read more chick lit novels than i care to admit. I don't expect great literary works but this book is a waste of time.

The characters are all dreadful people that no one could like. The main character is lazy, self-centered, idiotic and indulgent. I kept reading to the end in hope of her redeeming qualities appearing. They do not. It gets no better. Quit while you are ahead.

Save yourself the time and money and read a book with enjoyable characters - that's what chick lit is about!!!

How refreshing to find a book in this genre that isn't your average bland read. Its subtle irony and amusing scenario struck me immediately. Everyone seems to be facing the issues Jools is facing, debt collectors, rising costs, losing jobs etc - although we don't all sell ourselves online to deal with them. It's a book of our times. Interesting how readers seem to have such a problem with the letter device, it wasn't invented by Kinsella either and it's like saying an author can't put quotes or poems etc at the front of a chapter because it's been done before. Bottom line, if you appreciate classic English comedy, you'll love this!

Very interesting...
I had only heard great things about this book. It's the author's first book and I probably should have read this one first. The story is a little unbelievable. Read more

Definitely NOT worthy of being compared to Bridget Jones
If I could give 1/2 star I would. When I read the description of this book, I thought it might be kind of funny to read. What I should have read were the other reviews. Read more

just okay, not a likeable main character
I didn't like Jools, so it was pretty hard to read the book. The book read as a farce to me, so over the top. Read more

I usually like British reads, but this one didn't grab me. The character of Jools sounded all too familiar in that nothing was ever her fault. Read more

Fast-paced read
For those who like their chick-lit fast-paced and tongue-in-cheek, this is the book for you. Enjoyed all the references to London, and loved the idea of the love interest - some... Read more

A waste of my time
I detested the main character, I thought she was too lazy to help herself. I did not enjoy this book as I had hoped I would. I didn't think the storyline was believable either.
