The best collection of Nudes on the market, October 21, 2004
This review is from: Naked (Photography) (Hardcover)
This book is a knockout. Its great. In this collection we are given a beautiful look at hundreds of nudes from some of the best photographers in the world along with some unknown, but soon to be known photographers. The printing is great, and the size of the book (roughly 8x12) gives us a great look at detail in the photos. The price is great as well. You really cant go wrong with picking up this book.
Without any real, fetish/voyer work in it, we are left with pure fine art and erotic nudes from cover to cover. I highly recommend this title to all lovers of nude photography.

Super Combo Delux, September 2, 2005
This review is from: Naked (Photography) (Hardcover)
I'm not generally a big fan of "combo" books which contain work by many photographers. I prefer a single photographer book because I believe you get more of what the photographer-artist is saying to you with their work when you take it in as a whole, picture after picture. With combo books you keep switching gears and it breaks up the mood. Plus you'll inevitably run into photographers whose work you do not like and that leaves a sour taste.
Having said that bit, this book is absolutely wonderful. It's big, it's bold, it's production quality is ne plus ultra and the photo selection is outstanding. Plus is has one of the best covers I've ever seen. The range shown here is just enough to give variety but still stay in the groove of being in the same game, meaning there's no sudden surprises of weird fetish shots or something thrown in. It's consistent and shows the work of some of the best photographers in the world.
Very well edited and looks great on your end table. Plus it's a steal at that price! What more could you want? I love this book.

Outstanding collection, September 27, 2007
This review is from: Naked (Photography) (Hardcover)
Dozens of photographers contribute to this collection, giving almost every page a different mood and feel. Color or B&W, natural images or processed, arty and sculptural or fresh and unposed - these images span a wide range of styles and subjects. In part, this book seems to advertise the photographers and studios represented; it includes contact information for dozens of them. Perhaps as a result, these images tend not to display open eroticism and tend not to challenge the viewer. For example, nearly all of the female models fit a common description: twenty-something, slender, and Eurpoean in features and coloring. Many of the male models are buff young figures, too, with few examples of confrontational kinds of nudity.
It's easy to enjoy this collection. Imagery offer plenty of variety, without leaving some generally accepted comfort zone. And, since the human figure itself is timeless, the look that each era imposes on figure gives a glimpse into the style and culture of that time. Feierabend's anthology does a fine job of recording some of the looks imposed by the early years of the 2000s.
