5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, essential book for men who like social nudism, September 7, 2000
By
Gene Allen (New London, CT) - See all my reviews
I now own all three editions of Naked Places, having started with the first edition when it came out several years ago. This book is truly outstanding. I continue to be impressed with each new edition. The photos of nude men outdoors are, of course, beautiful, but it is the incredible amount of information as well as the level of detail that makes this book well worth owning. You need only look through a few pages of the book to realize that this book must have been a monumental research project. As someone who travels extensively across North America on business, I have had the opportunity to visit many of the places in the book (both beaches and resorts). I can report that the author's directions and descriptions are right on target. Had it not been for this book, I would never have known about a good number of these places. As I am writing this, I have had the 3rd edition for just a few days and haven't had a chance to put it to use, but I'm looking forward to checking out some of the new places. This book is absolutely a must-have item for any gay man who enjoys social nudity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource for nude travel!, December 26, 2000
By A Customer
Being a world traveler as well as a nudist, I am always looking for resources to help me with my travel planning. This book is now the only one I use when planning a trip. Michael Boyd has collected and organized some of the most accurate listings of nude accomodations that I have found. In addition, he's compiled breathtaking photos from some well-known "nude" photographers including NAKEDTONY and many others. Highly recommended!

Excellent book. I use this book to plan all my vacations. Have discovered many great naked resorts and beaches. If you're queer and like to go naked, ya just gotta have it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive Book, Beautiful Photos, February 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Naked Places, A Guide for Gay Men to Nude Recreation and Travel (Paperback)
If you're gay and you like to go naked on vacation, you must own this book. There's simply nothing else like it. The only problem with the book is that it has made me incredibly indecisive about my summer vacation plans. There are so many places that sound so wonderful, and I can't decide where to go! Being from California, I was especially pleased to see a very large number of places in my home state. In addition to my favorite nude beaches, there were lots of California places I didn't know about, and I've been able to visit a few of them as a result of Naked Places. Besides providing so much good information for guys like me who like to go naked, the nude photos are very beautiful and tasteful. I wouldn't mind meeting any of those guys on a nude beach!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Unbelievable Amount of Information!, January 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Naked Places, A Guide for Gay Men to Nude Recreation and Travel (Paperback)
I own both the first and second editions of this book, and, although the first edition was outstanding, the second edition seems to truly leave no stone unturned. There are nudist places where I would never expect to find them. My lover was downright shocked to learn that there is a gay nudist resort/campground in Iowa about 30 miles from where he grew up, but we haven't had the opportunity to go there yet (for the first time, we're both actually looking forward to visiting his relatives since we found out about it!). Although we haven't traveled since the second edition came out, we used the first edition on several trips. My lover and I found some wonderful hidden nude beaches in New England last summer, and we used the book to explore nude beaches and resorts in Hawaii the year before that. We're looking forward to using the book later this year for our first trip to Europe. Besides giving a large number of listings (both for beaches and for resorts, guesthouses, etc.), this book gives quality information for each listing. If you're going to go somewhere like Palm Springs where there are lots of gay resorts to choose from, you can look over the listings to narrow down your choices since each listing tells you things like prices, whether the clientele is all gay men or whatever, whether the resort has amenities like a pool, hot tub, and so on, what the sexual temperature of the place is (very important if you're into naughty fun like my lover and I are!), and exactly where you are allowed to go naked. The directions given to nude beaches are also excellent. On our New England trip, we found all the places we looked for with no problem. There is also lots of info about gay nudist clubs and some information on non-gay places that attract lots of gay men, like public pools that allow nude swimming (most are in Europe, unfortunately). The book is very well organized and very intelligently written. Like any good travel guide, the book does a great job of answering questions before you even think of them. I most highly recommend this book both for serious nudists and for guys who are just curious or who just dabble in nudist activities now and then; you don't have to be a "hardcore" nudist to get a lot of use out of this book. My lover and I have lived as nudists for six years and own several books about nudist travel and the nudist lifestyle, but Naked Places is clearly the best, both because of the vast amount of information it contains and because it is written by a gay man for a gay male audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book, A Must for Gay Men, February 20, 2002
By
"benjibinkc" (Kansas City, MO) - See all my reviews
This incredible book is truly an asset to the gay naturist community. This book is very descriptive and covers tons of unexpected places. (Or should I say UNcovers?!) Any gay man who likes to let it all hang out should most definitely own a copy of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very thorough and helpful., November 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Naked Places, A Guide for Gay Men to Nude Recreation and Travel (Paperback)
Thorough and helpful especially for resorts. But let the user beware that nude public recreation areas and parks can change status quickly. So temper recreation and parks descriptions with how long since the book was published. For example the area in Navarre Florida was closed for nude sunbathing in early 1999.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT NAKED PLACES GUIDE, April 2, 2000
This review is from: Naked Places, A Guide for Gay Men to Nude Recreation and Travel (Paperback)
As most people know, Dr. Leisure's speciality is nude recreation with an emphasis on nude beaches. Michael Boyd's characterization of nude beaches of which Dr. Leisure is personally familiar (That's more than a couple!) was right on target. He gives good directions and a good sense of the current situation. If the rest of the book's content is as on target, which I believe it is, then this is a must for the male nude recreationist traveler. Nice job Michael, Aloha Dr. Leisure at DrLeisure.com
