EXCERPT: From the introduction:

The simple act of removing all one's clothing can be incredibly liberating and exhilarating. American culture, so strongly influenced by puritan values, has traditionally sought to deprive the body of sensuous experiences. Consequently, being nude for reasons other than showering or sex is alien to many people. Why go naked? A more appropriate question is Why not? We were born naked, after all. Clothing is an invention of utility that has come to be taken far too seriously. -- From the Publisher --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

As far as I am concerned, Naked Places is the best gay travel guide out there. True, this book zooms in precisely on my main travel interests, namely gay nude beaches and resorts. But what really impresses me is how amazingly detailed and well written this book is, and the amount of information is really awesome... TOP NOTCH! I have every edition of this book and Mr. Boyd continues to out-do himself with each updated version. I really appreciate the fact that the author has gone to the effort of explaining in detail the risks involved in going to certain "traditional" nude beaches where it is technically illegal to be naked. You can read the facts and then make an informed decision about what risks you are willing to take. One of the things I most like about this newest version is the fact that all photos are reader submitted. The photos are nice to look at (and they do show EVERYTHING) but do not look like posed model shots. You can really imagine seeing one of these guys at a nude beach! This is a terrific book, and if you've ever thought about going to a nude beach or staying at a gay resort with a "clothing optional" policy, this is your book.

I now own all three editions of Naked Places, having started with the first edition when it came out several years ago. This book is truly outstanding. I continue to be impressed with each new edition. The photos of nude men outdoors are, of course, beautiful, but it is the incredible amount of information as well as the level of detail that makes this book well worth owning. You need only look through a few pages of the book to realize that this book must have been a monumental research project. As someone who travels extensively across North America on business, I have had the opportunity to visit many of the places in the book (both beaches and resorts). I can report that the author's directions and descriptions are right on target. Had it not been for this book, I would never have known about a good number of these places. As I am writing this, I have had the 3rd edition for just a few days and haven't had a chance to put it to use, but I'm looking forward to checking out some of the new places. This book is absolutely a must-have item for any gay man who enjoys social nudity.

I love to travel to places where I can hang out at the pool naked and read a book. I also enjoy nude beaches and other outdoor activities that afford a place to lose the clothing.

I own all editions of this book and I have to say that this update was well worth the wait. Michael Boyd has gone through with a fine-tooth comb, weeding out locations you would never visit anyway, and updated info about naturist areas worldwide. I was pleasantly surprised when information about our local nude hangout, which has a tendency to move around as authorities and others stick their noses in our business, was absolutely accurate.

Boyd has also taken the time to research all of these areas and added latitude/longitude coordinates so you can pull them up on Google Earth. I can't even imagine how long that took.

There are hundreds of bed & breakfasts, campgounds, tours and sailing trips listed in the book.

If you like to get naked and like to travel, you'll love this book.

Being a world traveler as well as a nudist, I am always looking for resources to help me with my travel planning. This book is now the only one I use when planning a trip. Michael Boyd has collected and organized some of the most accurate listings of nude accomodations that I have found. In addition, he's compiled breathtaking photos from some well-known "nude" photographers including NAKEDTONY and many others. Highly recommended!

This book (and its earlier editions) has been worth its weight in gold for finding clothing optional places in Hawaii, Italy, Key West and even locally here in the Phoenix area. Naked Places led me to what I think is the most gorgeous nude beach anywhere, that being Little Beach on the island of Maui. The photos in the book are very nice, but the descriptions are what really help the reader decide where they want to go. This is my Number One travel guide, as it should be for any man who likes to vacation naked and naturally.

I own both the first and second editions of this book, and, although the first edition was outstanding, the second edition seems to truly leave no stone unturned. There are nudist places where I would never expect to find them. My lover was downright shocked to learn that there is a gay nudist resort/campground in Iowa about 30 miles from where he grew up, but we haven't had the opportunity to go there yet (for the first time, we're both actually looking forward to visiting his relatives since we found out about it!). Although we haven't traveled since the second edition came out, we used the first edition on several trips. My lover and I found some wonderful hidden nude beaches in New England last summer, and we used the book to explore nude beaches and resorts in Hawaii the year before that. We're looking forward to using the book later this year for our first trip to Europe. Besides giving a large number of listings (both for beaches and for resorts, guesthouses, etc.), this book gives quality information for each listing. If you're going to go somewhere like Palm Springs where there are lots of gay resorts to choose from, you can look over the listings to narrow down your choices since each listing tells you things like prices, whether the clientele is all gay men or whatever, whether the resort has amenities like a pool, hot tub, and so on, what the sexual temperature of the place is (very important if you're into naughty fun like my lover and I are!), and exactly where you are allowed to go naked. The directions given to nude beaches are also excellent. On our New England trip, we found all the places we looked for with no problem.Read more ›
