Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
No need to avert your eyes-there's no photos of Karl Rove's bare ass here, but there are plenty of swift kicks to it. Uninhibited and unapologetic, the co-creator of liberal talk-radio network Air America unleashes a barrage of scorn-from grave accusations of high crime to ultra-personal mudslinging-on a rogue's gallery of Republicans, selected from the crop currently in power and the Contract with America revolutionaries of the 1990s. Short profiles of more than 50 Republicans, broken down into categories such as "The Wackos," "The Weasels" and "The Warmongers," feature a conversational roundup of offenses that reads much like partisan talk radio sounds: loud, jokey and very self-assured. For that reason, Lewis is at her best when she's at her nastiest, as in her expose of the entire Bush family: "In no time Barbara was spawning a series of barely literate offspring who, tragically, would become leaders with actual responsibilities." Lewis isn't looking to make a sophisticated case, but rather to condense much of what her audience already knows (or suspects) into a handy reference book, and she succeeds, backed by plenty of references to government reports, the mainstream media and independent watchdog groups. Though the jokes can get thin, and interludes into the trickier and stranger aspects of the Republican elite-like a breakdown of the Jack Abramoff scandal and steamy excerpts from the novels of Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Newt Gingrich and Lynne Cheney-are much too brief, this makes a fine primer for the angry Left-winger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny...but sad, October 9, 2006
This is one of those laugh-out-loud kind of books. The author cleverly lumps politicians into humorous categories and describes each one with biting wit. I went through the book in a couple of evenings. The only downside is that after you've had a chance to digest the content of the book, you can't help but feel a bit of sadness at the current state of affairs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hysterical Political Humor, September 19, 2006
By Julia (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
I read this book in just a few hours, laughing out loud on almost every page. This book has rounded up all the worst Republicans out there and describes in hilarious detail their more questionable actions. Not only does this book rehash all the funny (and horrifying) deeds of the worst Republicans, it's also sure to add some things you didn't know (but don't want to miss!). The book also includes selections from some of the more illustrious novels our politicians have published, including pages from Newt Gingrich, Lynne Cheney, and Scooter Libby (you have to read the selection from The Apprentice).

All in all, this book will keep you well informed on the all the worst Republicans while making you howl in laughter. MUST READ!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ken Starr couldn't hold a candle... , September 21, 2006
By Mara, New York, NY (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
Finally, something that strips it to the core -- and reveals the truth while keeping you laughing the whole way through. Shelly Lewis's "Naked Republicans" not only provided me with the usually suspected but never told insight into the scandels, deception, and filth that lays above and beneath the board of Washington DC but as told with such irreverant wit and laugh out loud humor - it truly provided a much needed antictode to the dismal state of our nation and the people entrusted to run it.
