Book Description

June 6, 2004
Growing up isn't easy when your mother is a figurehead for feminism and the most famous lesbian in the world. All her life, Molly Flynn has been intrigued, entertained, alarmed and exasperated by her mother Augusta's increasingly bizarre claims about who she is and where she came from. Now, as Molly sets off down America's West Coast to confront her estranged husband and serve him divorce papers, she looks back on her strange and unconventional childhood with a mixture of nostalgia, wistfulness, irritation and a wry sense of humour. But Molly will be waylaid on her journey from Seattle to California, and sidetracked -- with dramatic, surprising, hilarious and very unexpected results.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally lost on me..., September 28, 2005
By
This review is from: Naked Season (Paperback)
This book is entirely lost on me...and consider the money I spent on this book...well lost in a nude beach. On the cover, it deceivingly says `smart, surprising and sensitive'. What I say is it's sassy but stupid, surprising, yes, surprisingly boring!

Ok, that's the bad part about this book, The Naked Season. In actual fact, I cannot remember why I picked out this book among all the others in the shelves. The cover isn't all that great and the title is a little...confusing. If you're into lesbianism or feminism, grab it and read it to your heart's content. But for me, it's not really my cup of tea. Molly Flynn is boringly normal and her mother (adoptive mother) is outrageously crazy. So crazy it's almost unbelievable...well, she IS unbelievable and the word `fictitious' flash across my mind whenever Augusta (the mother) is written about.

Maybe I am not exposed to this kind of lifestyle and belief but sincerely, this book to totally unbelievably lost on me.

Apart from Molly Flynn, all the other characters in the books are either gays or lesbians.

I have nothing against lesbians and gays but when reading this book, I'm lost. I had to force myself to read on in order to get my money's worth.
