I'm about as anti-religion as you can get, but this video is simply horrid.

First of all, the production quality is that of a home movie. Grainy, horrible sound, and basically no direction.

I'm about as anti-religion as you can get, but this video is simply horrid.

First of all, the production quality is that of a home movie. Grainy, horrible sound, and basically no direction.

The movie starts off with what seems like an endless diatribe against Christianity, which normally would make me happy, if it weren't for the complete lack of coherence or content. You could sum up the whole thing with "Chrisitians have done bad things in the name of God...". Very true, but do you need to take 30 minutes of rambling to say it?

Second, many of the points brought up were iffy at best. If you've ever raid Asimov's Guide to the Bible, you will start picking up on inconsistancies with what is said in the video, and what is said in Asmiov's book. Since Asimov provides massive amounts of citations and sources to back up his interpritations, I'm more likely to trust his judgement.

Third, there is one segment of the video where they compare quotations from an ancient Sumerian text with the Bible. It starts of as very interesting, with quotes almost being word for word. But then you start to realize that they don't provide any information about WHERE these quotes are coming from. There is no book/paragraph reference, not even a reference to what Sumerian text these quotes are obtained from! Not only that, but they go on for 20+ minutes! It was utterly PAINFUL to watch.

This brings me to my last gripe. Very little information about the people who wrote/produced this video is given. I know nothing about their background, nor about their research methodology. This, combined with the poor production value, makes this video not worth having. Many good books do a much better job of showing the idiocy of religious belief than this video does.

Skip this one.

This video exposes the ancient origins of modern religions, tracing them back to ancient Egypt and beyond. It tells about the sixteen other crucified saviors before Jesus, and how the Christian myth was created by plagiarizing the beliefs of many ancient civilizations. The story goes on to explain how many of these old religions were based on the ancient worship of the sun as "the light of the world" and the giver of life; how the sun "dies" for 3 days at the winter solstice as it ceases it's movement southward in the sky, and then is "reborn" on December 25th as it begins to move north again. The connection between religion and the zodiac is also explained, such as Christians (who worship the sun of God) worshipping on Sun-day, while Hebrews worship on Satur-day (from the ancient Semetic worship of Saturn.) These examples are just the tip of the iceberg and this video should be viewed by all living people, especially the devout believers in Biblical myths.

This video should in a lot of senses be revised. It is for the super religious types that just need a tap on the shell. It has some intresting facts but the resources should be shared with the viewer. This video is comprised of taking religious stories from around the globe for centuries and comparing them. How the pieces fit so closely together is a miracle.. (ironic) This video is facts. Nothing more. Yes, its not super quality picture or sound, but the information and resources are excellent(except they don't tell you where to find themselves!) If you look for them you will find them though by doing your own research. I have researched religion for over 5 years. What the NAKED TRUTH says is nothing new, but put into a format the can not be refuted. This video tape puts it on such a low level that even a fourth grader could understand it. Bottom line... I personally have studied and found where the facts have come from, but it is true that the movie does not.

This review is from: The Naked Truth - Exposing the Deceptions About the Origins of Modern Religions (DVD)
I am an atheist interested in the documented history of ancient religions. I thought this presentation might help, but it provides very little.

This video is very poorly done. Too much amateurish narration and not enough substantive information about documented evidence. No way of knowing where any of the very limited information comes from, so it's impossible to research. And the title is also misleading. I really didn't need the boring "sermon" on the need for me to perfect my spiritual self into a decent human being in relation to "the creator", whoever that is.

This video provides some explanation for some of the "evidence" it portrays instead of allowing the informed viewer to think for him/herself. Isn't that what "free-thinking" is all about?

And there is a rather lengthy commercial at the end denoting some of the producers other products.

I would have given this video Zero stars but I didn't have that option. Save your money on this one.

What needs to be understood is that this was originally part of a television series. It doesn't NEED to provide detailed references. Anyone wishing to can find information and further support for what's stated in the video. Jesus is purported to have said that "The Kingdom of Heaven is within you." and it's sad that so-called Christians would try to prevent people from making up their own minds about things. I spent many years pretending to believe what my parents pretended to believe because other people pretended to believe it. Accepting other people's beliefs as dogma was crippling and I thank God that I was able to come to my own understandings and search for the divinity that's within me and every human being. Any belief system which cannot withstand questioning certainly can't be valid.

To the "skeptics" who claim that there are no "footnotes" and other "references" in the video. Its funny, but why don't you ask for footnotes and references when the opposite is said about that Jesus existing etc.?

Did you ask for footnotes and references when the bible was read to you? Sometimes logic overcomes so called evidence. You cannot disprove something that was not proven to begin with. However, history does show sun-ship throughout the different religions of the worlds. Why would Christianity or Judaism be excluded? I don't think they are. So many similar stories between all the religions that is cannot be a coincidence.

This video is worth watching and even owning to show others. Its time for a spiritual awakening.

Enjoy folks ! !

3.0 out of 5 stars 50% great ideas and 50% nonsense, June 27, 2010
This review is from: The Naked Truth - Exposing the Deceptions About the Origins of Modern Religions (DVD)
This could have been a great documentary, but it turns out they packed 50% nonsense and 50% great ideas.
The nonsense moments are at times so awkward and uncanny that one may think they have been planted there by design.
A few examples:
1 Jordan Maxwell explaining Dalai Lama means lamb of god. Every cretin knows it means ocean of wisdom in Tibetan.
2 Bill Jenkins claiming the bible was translated from Arabic.
3 Bill Jenkins saying the the cup is a symbol of judaism.
4 Derek Partridge talking about prehistoric men while images of dinosaurs are on screen as a potential threat to early men.
5 Michael Chandler claiming that SOLOMON is sun in three languages, then can't think which ones and Partridge suggests SOL is Spanish for Sun, etc...talking about texts written ages before even Latin emerged.
The unnamed books they are quoting from are:
1 ANCIENT EGYPT THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD by G. Massey (1907)
2 BIBLE MYTHS by T.W. Doane (1882)
Both readily available online for free.

A good watch with a few grains of salt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Facts from fiction, December 20, 2008
This review is from: The Naked Truth - Exposing the Deceptions About the Origins of Modern Religions (DVD)
Super DVD. Its a bit old but timeless in its content. If your interested in Egypt or looking deeper into the origins of religion this is for you. For some it may seem like heresy but of course this can only be if it isn't true. Things like the yearly flood in Egypt called archoNOA(H)and Mises of Egypt's commandments preceding Moses clearly show it is. A single sentence of truth vanishes buckets of lies and this is a wonderful gift these men give to us. Enjoy.

This review is from: The Naked Truth - Exposing the Deceptions About the Origins of Modern Religions (DVD)
The informational content of this DVD is very thought provoking and interesting, but the footage was clearly transferred from VHS tapes, with the original footage being taped circa 1991. I wish the producers of this DVD had taken a little more time and invested a little more money in putting together a quality DVD with a top level menu, special features including citations for further research would not have been that hard to do, and would have definitely added value to the product.

As far as presentation, it basically covers a lot of the material touched upon in Part I of the movie ZEITGEIST, though in a little more detail. The comparative scriptural interpretation segment, quoting from an unspecified source (quite possibly the BOOK YOUR CHURCH DOESN'T WANT YOU TO READ, or something similar), was the weakest point of the presentation. It was good information, but not very compelling television viewing. Brian Flemming covers this material much more adroitly in his recent documentary THE GOD WHO WASN'T THERE.

The only thing that would make me uncomfortable showing this DVD to fellow atheists is the final interview where one of the presenters unexpectedly cops a non-sequitur Deistic & creationist stance that is downright embarrassing; this is reinforced earlier on by images of dinosaurs juxtaposed with humans; to their credit, they don't claim dinosaurs and humans lived at the same time; but the image editing should have been more careful to remove this from even being inadvertently implied. If these minor gaffes were not present, I would have no trouble showing it to fellow atheists.

This information, i.e. totally naturalistic explanations of religious myths, etc, is important for atheists to know, but this film is flawed; I similarly would like to show just Part I of ZEITGEIST to fellow atheists, but the rest of that film (which I do mostly agree with) is admittedly off putting to those not prepared to deal with the wider political implications of that film.

Unfortunately, since both films either have flaws or go beyond the confines of the subject matter that I feel comfortable sharing with fellow atheists, I will probably confine myself to print resources.

That said, The Naked Truth DVD is really fascinating anthropological work. I contend that it is worth owning, but it is not a stand alone resource; use it as a guide to further personal research and intellectual growth.

First of all, most christian's will not look at this video with an open mind, even as the bible says we must decern truth in all things.
Jordan Maxwell is extremely well researched and has connected modern day christianity to astrology and other pagan belief systems of old, thru ancient writings , symbols.
he never indicates in the video that there is no god, he only ask's you too keep an open mind, and look at the symbols throughout the history of ancient civilizations, and what they worshiped, and how some of these pagen beliefs have come through and have taken a more political and controlling stance, but its all there for you to decide.
it might make you think a little.
