Acoustic live album,
By Jessie (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Naked Truth (Audio CD)
This is Golden Earring's 1997 acoustic live album recorded in the Cafe de Kroon in Amsterdam, and one of their most beloved and popular albums. While you may be skeptical of songs like Twilight Zone being performed unplugged, they really do a good job with them! I recommend the Complete Naked Truth, though. It comes with Naked II. And, as always, I have to recommend the Bloody Buccaneers album as well.

Great versions of Radar Love and Twilight Zone,
By Jessie (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Naked Truth (Audio CD)
I was very impressed with what they did acoustically with Radar Love and Twilight Zone. Twilight Zone actually has some flamenco-style guitar in the middle. It sounds crazy, but it makes for a nice change if you're getting tired of the fantastic original studio version. The heavy bass used during Radar Love sounds great too. I was dissapointed with this version of Weekend Love, though. I was surprised that Long Blond Animal actually worked pretty well performed acoustically, but it'll always be an electric song. I personally prefer Fully Naked, since it includes wonderful versions of Yellow And Blue and As Long As The Wind Blows that are, in my opinion, better than the 1970 studio versions. All told, the acoustic albums are my least favorite of the live albums. While they have proved that they are great acoustically, I really prefer their live electric albums.

Enjoyable Unplugged CD,
By A Customer
This review is from: Naked Truth (Audio CD)
I bought this CD because "Twilight Zone" was on it, and I was expecting the version I sometimes hear on the radio (but not often enough!) However, I was pleasantly surprised by the "Folk" quality of the songs on this album. It reminded me of sort of a Kingston Trio or Peter Paul and Mary, or even a Clancy Brothers like flavor, but not quite. I discovered several new tunes that I really enjoy, in fact, I play over and over again in my car. I'm still, however, in search of the version of "Twilight Zone" that really rocks out.

Excellent Album,

I bought this album accidently several years ago, and it was a great mistake. It is one of my favorites. It is an all acoustic concert in a small restaurant in Amsterdam. I recommend it to everybody who appreciates great music. Its not an easy one to find, so buy it while you can.

Acoustic Surprise,
This review is from: Naked Truth (Audio CD)
Back in the days before computers, I would have to comb the racks of record stores to find Golden Earring albums and tapes. I had thought that they'd broken up a long time prior to this release, so I thought this was a 'Best of' collection. Seeing I hadn't heard some of the songs on it, I picked it up. Upon listening, all I could say was WOW!
This is a live, acoustic set that really rocks! Radar Love, Twilight Zone, Mad Love's Coming, Weekend Love, Long Blond Animal, and I Can't Sleep Without You are all high-energy rockers on overdrive. The rest of the CD is also just about perfect. The two weakest cuts in my opinion are 'Pouring my Heart Out Again', which the crowd seems to love (but not me), and the Byrds' 'Eight Miles High', which is excellent other than the fact that it goes on too long. Golden Earring has many live albums available, including three acoustic ones. This one is the best of 'em all in my book. Highly recommended.

These guys have always intrigued me with their style more than their skills as musicians. It is very interesting to see them make their music work with acoustic strings, and live to boot. I think it shows a dimension of the band we haven't seen before. Get this if you are a long-time, or die-hard fan. I don't recommend it as your first Golden Earring exposure. I doubt you would get the gist of this if you are not familiar with these songs from the start.

Once again this tremendous overlooked (in the U.S.) band delivers. This is a hard driving live performance with the songs played true to form. And it's acoustic, which makes it even more amazing. One of rocks finest groups and it's a must have for Earring fans.

I bought this CD several years ago as a long time Golden Earring fan. It is one of my top ten albums of all time. Great from end to end. I loved it so much that I went to a European distributor and purchased the video for this concert. A must buy for any Earring fan! PS. This disk has not left my car disk changer except to play in my home player!
