5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasently Suprised
I love Sarah Hudson's album for several reasons. She speaks the truth in her lyrics, she's got a real voice, and her songs are all great. This CD beats Avril Lavigne, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, etc. by a mile. My favroite songs are Girl On the Verge, Strange, I Know, Little, Gandhi, and Bad Habit. So go, grab the keys, buy this album now!

Sarah Hudson is making the same mistakes her father made 30 years ago when he traded in self-respect to be a "Monkees" characterized entertainer on the short lived "Hudson Brothers" tv show. Now daughter Sarah is being dressed up and marketed, not in the feel good 60s vibe, but the current pseudo postpunk teen angst marketing gimmick. Already beaten to the punch by Fiona Apple and Avril Lavigne, she is behind the curve. Sadly, her immense talent, like her father's, will be lost because she cashed in on the misery gimmick of the movie "Thirteen" and "Kids." Now in her late twenties, she is still dressing up like a miserable high schooler. It is amazing that she has songs about being angry at her folks when a recent documentary shows her so close to her father. A song about how her folks mean to her really would have made her stand out from the crowd. Image over substance takes down another amazing voice. See you in the discount bins Sarah.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, Outstanding...don't miss this!, September 7, 2004
This review is from: Naked Truth (Audio CD)
Every once in a while a truly fresh talent crests over the wasteland that is the cookie-cutter manufactured music industry...such is the case with Sarah Hudson.
These songs are fresh, hungry, angry, sad, giddy, sexy, powerful pop at its powerful best. There isn't a predictable lyric or melody in there for those with ears tired of the Ashley Simpsons and Brittany Spears...This is a powerful voice, both in sound and on paper...she speaks to generations of gals and does so with a gleeful glint of sly in her eye...
This is the music industry's best kept secret...This CD will become your favorite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Sarah-Where Did You Magically Appear From, May 7, 2005

Not being a top 40 radio listener, I got Sarah Hudson's "Naked Truth" CD based on an Amazon recommendation. I played the CD a couple times and did not hear anything special. Then one morning the title song suddenly penetrated my brain and I was hooked. Since then "Bad Habit", "Girl on the Verge", "Strange", "Gandhi" and "Sentimental Saturday" have all had frequent replays. In fact there are only two tracks that I don't really like. So don't dismiss this after just one play, it might connect unexpectly when you least expect it.

Sarah seems to be a blend of "Pink" and "Avril", all three stand out because their lyrics are vastly better than other popular vocalists. And Sarah's lyrics are the best of the three: "I'm allll messeddd up". Plus Sarah has Kay (Letters to Cleo) Hanley's uncanny ability to clip her words so that you actually understand her lyrics; not an easy thing with lines like: "I'm the daughter of a self-indulgent man and a woman who mastered the art of apology-that psychology is all that I am".

"I Know", the most ambitious track, is like a four minute operetta (think "Bohemium Rhapsody"). Although there is a basic unity between the verses, there are subtle arrangement and emphasis variations between each verse-chorus, giving the song an interesting verse-to-verse progression.

Sarah is light years ahead of everybody on the variety of her arrangements. Going from almost folk to heavy instrumentals, and frequently varying the backup from almost acappella to metal meltdown withing the same song.

This CD is a lot of fun and I still haven't gotten tired of it.

Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.

Despite what some might want you to think (Music Lover Branson MI) going to an all girl Private Catholic School no matter where it is located does not make you wealthy. When everyone around you drives Mercedes and BMW's and you have weird hair and drive a Toyota Tercel it makes you a freak and hardly puts a silver spoon in your mouth. Every parent tries to give their children better than they had, even if that means making them the out cast at a private school. It does not make you immune to the pains of childhood, or protect you from agonizing over your "best friend's suicide" or how to deal with your parents divorce you heal, you forgive and you move on. Talent is talent and no matter how much some want to believe it, having a father who "Use to be someone in the '70's" does not automatically land record contracts at your feet, we would see a lot more kids of former someone's if it did. Talent is still a requirement for the record companies to justify spending any money on the artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Strange" Girl you'll fall in love with!, January 15, 2005

Sarah Hudson's single Girl on the Verge was the first song I ever heard by her, and I fell in love with it, and bought her CD. I can't believe more people don't know of Sarah Hudson, but she seems relatively unknown. Her songs are a good mix of Rock and Pop. Her lyrics and vocals are strong and moving. My favorite songs are "Girl on the Verge", her first sing, "Little", where she releases some anger towards her parents, "Gandhi", a feelgood pop tune that'll get stuck in your head, and "Bad Habit".
I say, go buy this CD now, and don't wait!!

If you like Katy Rose and Avril Lavigne most likely you would enjoy this album. I was pleasantly surprised by Sarah Hudson's wonderful voice, so much better than most who fall into this kind of teen-pop. The lyrics & songs in general are all good, and overall this album is a fine effort.

2.0 out of 5 stars Yikes!, June 12, 2006
This review is from: Naked Truth (Audio CD)
Sarah Hudson's album has been compared to Skye Sweetnam's 'Noise From The Basement'. WHAT? There is no comparison - Skye Sweetnam has actual talent. While Sarah...

What sort of lyrics are - "I can't hold on forever/I know that you know I know" and "I wanna go shopping like Wynona Ryder" and "you better lock your doors/the bitch is back."?

"Naked Truth" is not about the music. This album is about manufacturing a woman trying to be a girl, singing about things that she's too old to identify with. The tunes are trying their best to be hardcore - but they arent. Sarah is trying her best to be Skye Sweetnam - but she's not.

Besides, Skye Sweetnam is actually a great role model for youngsters. Sarah is not.

This album I think is great! It's a little weird, but you can't expect every girl singer to be a bubbly clone of Hilary Duff. She has some great songs, like Girl on the Verge,Gandhi,Call it my Life, and Strange. But some of her songs I didn't go for. But over all she's an AWESOME singer.

I usually don't take time to write a review but Sarah Hudson deserves one for this CD. It is near EXCELLENT! A mix of some kick-ass guitar rock and cutting lyrics. You actually care to listen to the words! What a break from the rest of the fluff out there. BUY IT, you may not like all of the songs but any one of the ones that you do like will make it worthwhile! Not only can she sing but she can write songs that catch you up in them as well.
