Untouchable Dayne,
By Chris S. "cscotts" (atlanta, ga United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Naked Without You (Audio CD)
One of the really sad things of the nineties was the total lack of spotlight for eighties mainstay Taylor Dayne. Having put out a truly classic album with 1989's CAN'T FIGHT FATE, she was seemingly absent for most of the nineties, save for 1993's well-below-her-talents cd SOUL DANCING. This album should have restored her to some semblance of public awareness, but alas, with the exception of a couple of club hits, didn't. Quite a travesty, because this is probably her finest album, having the right mix of dance and balladry, alot of it cowritten by the artist. Not only is her voice better than ever--one of the VERY few eighties dance divas that could actually SING-but there were at least four or five possible huge singles on this album, not the least of which is the title track, featuring a career high vocal performance. For those who thought Dayne had disappeared, search out this album. You won't be disappointed.

Taylor Dayne is back and better than ever!,

Five long years have passed since the release of Soul Dancing. And fans have waited patiently. But the wait is over, and well worth it. Naked Without You brings us a more seasoned Taylor, more in touch with herself and her audience, and certainly her soulful voice. As expected, the album gives us the sassy dance jams for which Taylor is a household name. And as usual, she provides us with a taste of her sultry talent for ballads. Only this time she really outdoes herself in the ballad department. The title track Naked Without You is so moving and real that nearly anyone can relate. And it sounds so much like she is crying on You Don't Have to say you Love Me that it took my breath away. But I actually shivered and cried on Soon as my Heart Breaks. The song is only accompanied by piano, and Taylor shows some wonderful vocal aerobics. The song is soul shattering. Her high vocals and deep emotional croonings will literally cripple anyone who has ever been hurt before. And who hasn't? This CD is a fabulous triumph from a Diva who has been gone far too long. Her return is nothing short of spectacular.

A "must have" for any music lover!,

Every song is amazing, which is unusual for most of todays CD releases. Taylor Dayne's voice is beautiful and fierce. The CD is simply the bomb and I can only recommend it 1000%. I hope more people will get the pleasure of listening to such divine music. It's hard for me to pick a favourite song because all of them are so unique and something you want to hear over and over and over again. From heart breaking songs such as "Soon As My Heart Breaks", "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" to "Dreams" and goove it out to "Stand" and I could just go on and on. Just hit the replay button on your stereo...

Naked Without You is one of the greatest dance hits to come along in awhile! The album itself is very good. Taylor Dayne is such a diverse artist with a style all her own. Keep it up Taylor!

AMAZING!!!!!,

There is rarely any artist out there who puts out an album where every song is perfect. Taylor is amazing on this album. We need to hear more from her, but unfortunately in America the artists with REAL talent (Cyndi Lauper, Tori amos, Anastacia, Christina Aguliera) usually don't get noticed as much as those "personalities" who seemed to make it to the top out of sheer luck (Madonna, Britney Spears, Eminem, NSync). This album is unlike any other Taylor Dayne has put out. Definitely worth a listen. If you're not a fan yet.. you will be by the end of the album.

Naked Emotion,

I actually bought this cd on import without having heard any trax from it. Having owned all her previous albums, and particularly Soul Dancing which blew me away - Door To Your Heart should have been a single, as should I Could Be Good For You - I knew I'd enjoy the album at least. The album sees a true change in Taylor's style, stripping down arrangements and concentrating on the edginess and emotivity of her lyrics and voices. Some songs are missable (Unstoppable, Don't Make Me Want You) but when they're good, they're 'ohmigawd' amazing. The title track, a cover of Roachford's sleeper hit steals the show with its achiness of a lover down on their knees regretting blowing their chances. Co-written 'Dreams' is a sweet and endearing lullaby of drowning in a lover's self, and the album's closer 'Soon As My Heart Breaks' with a simple piano and Taylr's rip-roaring vocals should be given a classification under 'goosebump' in the dictionary. A true gem. Whatever You Want out Turner's Tina's original, and her Dusty Springfield cover is to die for (You Don't Have To Say You Love Me). Taylor is renowned for her Diane Warren songs, however the one selected here is far from her best, but still a little gem in a world of gravel. A superb evening ablum with a glass of wine by the fire, and a highly recommendable one at that.

Stunning masterpiece of heart-felt ballads and dance tracks.,

The the most anticipated album of the year is Taylor's "Naked Without You". After a 5 year hiatus from the studio, Dayne recaptures all the magic and emotion from her previous hit singles and provides it in concentrated doses on this album. Although Dayne has been categorized as an 80's dance diva, she easily shatters that misconception with her funky lead single "Unstoppable". Furthermore, her tearful ballads such as the title track bring forth a sea of emotions that anyone from any walk of life can relate to. Taylor reclaims her song "Whatever You Want" from Tina Turner and injects many more sublte nuances. This collection features Dayne in peak form as she flexes her vocal muscle over every track without being overbearing and obtrusive in the interpretation. This album has multiple singles potential. Album highlights include: "Whenever You Fall", "Stand" and the Diane Warren-penned "Soon as my Heart Breaks". Even if you've never heard of Taylor but enjoy the voices of Celine, Mariah and Whitney, you should pick up this disc and give it a try. One listen and you'll realize why she has 8 consecutive top ten singles and gold and multi-platinum albums to her credit.

unbelievable!!!!,

I have been listening to this woman ever since she started. I lost touch after the "can't fight fate" cd. I saw her live recently when she came to my town. I bought the "naked without you" cd after seeing her live.(I did not have high expectations for this cd) Oh my [gosh]!!!was I ever impressed!!!I love ballads, and this cd is for the most part all beautiful, touching and powerful ballads!!!The kind that are too meaningful and personal for radio, but just perfect for me and you!!!!This cd rekindled my interest in her, so I bought her "soul dancing" cd, which is damn good, but not as awesome as "naked without you" cd. Taylor, thanks for the music, and for inspiring me to become a better singer myself!!!!

Taylor's best,
By jeremy B. (France) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Naked Without You (Audio CD)
"Naked Without You" truly comes from Taylor's heart and sounds more intimate than her 3 previous albums on Arista. Taylor does what she really appreciates and the result is original and dazzling: Glorious dance anthem ("STAND", one of Taylor's best song ever), funky r&b ("unstoppable), touching ballad ("You don't have to say you love me"), hypnotising jungle influenced track ("Don't make me love you", amazing) and more. This album proves that Taylor is one of the true queen of pop, a woman that can sing anything and so well.Definitly Taylor's best.

Back & Better Than Ever,

All I can say about this remarkable singer is that she moves my soul. The maturity, color and expression in her voice is head and shoulders above anything I have heard from the multitiudes of female performers that are around at this time. I never tire of listening to the tracks and each time I do, I hear a different nuance that makes the song fresh and new all over again. Its a thrilling compilation and deserves a ton more attention from music lovers.
