Soul soothing music for everyone,
By
This review is from: Namahana (Audio CD)
This is the most beautiful and soul-soothing music I've ever heard. If you're a Hapa fan, and didn't think they could top the first album, you're in for a great surprise! If you don't know who Hapa is, or have never heard Hawaiian music, now would be a good time to get started. This is brilliant and inspired music - the instrumentals even top "Olinda Road" from the first album -- "Stars in the Morning Sky", "Emme's Island Moments Theme", "Debra Anne", "Cavatina". Barry's genius for harmony in diversity continues with the title cut, blending Irish pipes, Slack Key, and Charles Ka'Upu's ancient and moving chants. Wherever you live, with this music playing you'll be on Maui, near the mist of a waterfall, emraced by the scented island air.

Aloha Nui Loa,
By "makauole" (No Kaua`i mai au.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Namahana (Audio CD)
Pehea `oe? Oia mau no. I've had this CD for a while, and I get nothing but compliments from the people that hear me play it. I live in the mainland now so the people that hear me play this CD are from a variety of backgrounds. My friends tell me that the music is so peaceful and soothing, and I agree. I own a large collection of Hawaiian music from contemporary to Jawaiian, and in my collection I have several Hapa CD's. So, I must also agree with some of the earlier reviews, that this CD might be better than the first "Hapa". I love both of them equally. But since this is a review for "Namahana", I'll tell you why I love this CD. The music is soothing and rich with Aloha. But most of all I like the way they were able to bring both their heritages into the mix. My hat goes off to all those who are responsible for this work. My favorite track is the last track "Aloha Namahana" because it represents both of their heritages with the variety of instruments used and the music. If you want a taste of Aloha, then I suggest you purchase this CD. Once you taste the Aloha, check the other titles purchased by people who've purchased this CD. Hawaiian music is definitely No ka `oi. I'm Hawaiian and I grew up on Kaua'i on the westside, WHS Menehune. This CD brings me home, and reminds me of how special the islands and the people in the islands are. Mahalo to Hapa and their ohana. Onipa'a, Hawai`i. Ua mau ke ea o ka `aina i ka pono. Ka`ano`i. Sorry for any typos.

HAPA IS THE BEST HAWAIIAN BAND!,
By Local Girl (Hawaii, United States) - See all my reviews

I bought this cd when it first came out, because I am a real Hapa fan. Even after 7 months of listening to it, I'm not even close to getting tired of it. The english poetry is so meaningful, and Barry and Kelii have unsurpassed musical talent in my eyes. You must listen to Cavatina, which is my favorite instrumental. The melody is so beautiful, and the classical guitar by bb shawn sets the tone. I love every song on this cd, they're all incredible. All I can say in conclusion is that I love Hapa, and this is an awesome cd. You should buy it!

Another stellar performance,

Yet again, Hapa has given us a superb album. When I am homesick for Aiea, I just put this on in the car and I am home. Mahalo nui loa guys, you have done it again.

Music that will make your Hawaiian soul soar,
By A Customer
This review is from: Namahana (Audio CD)
Hapa harmonize like no other duo. When their voices join in the telling of Hawaiian legend, lore and love, all hearts soar. Unparalleled guitar work - the sounds that come from that guitar make you laugh out loud with pure pleasure. The world is a better place with Hapa.

A nice suprise,

I have always loved Hapa. When I bought the CD, I saw one of the tracks was titled "Cavatina". I was hoping that it was the theme from "The Deer Hunter", but i could not be sure. So to my suprise it was! A haunting piece of music, and Hapa does a beautiful version. Mahalo to Hapa......

A CD you knew HAPA could do - and how to get liner notes,
By A Customer
This review is from: Namahana (Audio CD)
My favorite HAPA album has always been their Hoku-winning first album. But with "Namahana", it's a tough call. "Namahana" comes off as a much deeper, more emotional album, which you may or may not realize unless you read the liner notes.

This CD is great! If you like contemporary Hawaiian Music, youwill like this CD. They are awesome live! Keli'i Kaneali'ihas a wonderful voice, and Barry Flanagan is the best guitar player I have ever heard. With Hula dances by Healani Youn and Hawaiian chanting by Charles Ka'upu, this group is loved by all ages. HAPA will be the best Hawaiian concert you will ever go to. So, if you don't have this CD...BUY IT!
