Product Description

Product Description

The fifth in Namco's retro gaming series is a throwback to a time when video games were simultaneously simpler and more revolutionary. The noble experiments in this anthology are Pac-Mania, an isometric, 3-D variation of the popular ghost gobbling game; Dragon Spirit, a WWII-era prop-fighter shooting game played from an overhead perspective; Metro-Cross, a third-person, platform-style obstacle race; the almost-forgotten, monster-themed action/adventurer Baraduke; and the early RPG Legend of Valkryie. Who ever thought a museum could be this much fun?

Manufacturer Description

Here's five arcade hits that put the joy in joystick: Metro-Cross Baraduke Dragon Spirit Pac-Mania and The Legend Of Valkyrie. Set your time machine and go back to an era when big collars were cool big hair was hip and fun was a quarter away.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pac-Maniacs only, July 18, 2001

This review is from: Namco Museum Volume 5 (Video Game)
The last of the five in Namco's series - it includes: Pac-Mania, Dragon Spirit, Metro-Cross, Baraduke, and Legend of Valkyrie. Except for Pac-Mania, a wonderful early version of a 3-D world for Pac-Man to adventure in, the remaining titles on this disc are unappetizing at best, and generally boring at worst. The strange overhead perspective of Dragon Spirit will throw off some players. Legend of Valkyrie was an early attempt at a RPG and is laughable by today's standards. Some of the rest I had never heard of until trying this disc. I have a copy just for the Pac-Mania game, but the rest I rarely play, and it mostly sits unused in the box. Not a fitting conclusion for this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Conclusion of the Namco series for the PS!, January 17, 2002

The focus here is on Pac-Mania. I still get a kick out of it. You cannot sign your name as with the Atari arcade version, but there are extra levels (and MORE SCORE!) to be had. Baraduke is an interesting romp about a group of space beings that are captured...of course you have to rescue them. Metro-Cross is a quick-paced race against time, soda cans (BURP!), and other things that get in your way. I don't care much for Valkyrie and Dragon Spirit. You can also view a piece of opera in the Theatre room, performed by the Pac-couple. Buy this CD; Pac-Mania alone is worth the cost.
