4.0 out of 5 stars Retro-Arcade. Blast to the past!
Namco Museum 64 is a great game for retro-arcade lovers. Namco Museum 64 features 6 games: Pac-Man, Ms-Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Galaxian, Galaga, and Pole Position. These games all came out in the arcades in the 1980's. I remember pumping quarters into these games when they first came out in the arcades. All of the games are pretty straight forward. 3.0 out of 5 stars good but lacking........
i was super excited by this collection of games, and i really wish i could give it 4 or 5 stars, but i can't. the two pac mans are great, but the controls are maddeningly difficult. Glaga and Glaxian are basically similar and the controls are ridiculous.....simply innefficient. DIG DUG and Pole Position are fine, but again the controls leave much to be desired,...

Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man focuses on a yellow circle (with a mouth) that eats pellets. 4 different colored ghosts chase after you in a maze. Galaga and Galaxian are basically Space Invader clones. You are a ship shooting invaders down. Dig Dug is sort of a Mr. Do clone. Your a person in a garden destroying monsters with a pump. Finally, Pole Position is a F-1 racer. Your car does a qualifying race, then onto the main race.

Overall, this a great game for me! For today's generation, the graphics may be a little lame, but for the retro lovers, this will be a blast.

Fans of the old arcade games will love playing the original arcade versions at home, Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, Pole Position, Dig Dug and more. Very fun and popular with people of all gaming skills.

If you like arcade classics like Ms. Pacman, Galaga, Dig-dug, etc., this game is worth purchasing. Not only did it bring hours of good old simple arcade fun, but it also brought back feelings of nostalgia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Exactly right, but pretty close, December 26, 1999

This is not an exact replica of the games. A disapointment, when you consider that namco has the rights to the "roms." The galaga game has the sound effects messed up on the challenge stages, which doesn't affect playability.

The real irritation, however, is the Dig Dug game. They programmed it in a way that it doesn't fit on the TV screen. That's right, it has one of those annoying scrolling screens. It's unplayable for someone like me that played the real arcade game.

The pac-man games are perfect replicas, however, the original pac-man screen on my TV was very difficult to see. The weakness of the little nintendo joystick is painfully apparent here. The difficulty of a game should be it's premise, not poor controls.

But this game is fun, if for no other reason than to use your nintendo and play the games on your TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hey!, December 27, 2000
This review is from: Namco Museum 64 (Game Cartridge)
I got this game for Christmas, and I absolutely love it. I grew up on Pole Position and Pac-Man, so having the home version is awesome. Almost of the details are exactly the same, except for on Dig Dug, where the entire screen doesn't quite fit on your TV. But I haven't found that to be a problem, you can turn screen scroll on so it scrolls if you're missing something on the bottom row or above ground... You can also tinker with lives and stuff (and the screen scroll) with the "dipswitches", something you might miss if you don't read the instruction manual because you already know how to play the games (hit start on the individual game screens before you start playing the game). Finally, if you have a controller pack, you can save your high scores, which is great. Pole Position, Dig Dug, Pac Man, and Galaga are absolutely awesome; although Ms. Pac Man I feel is a tad redundant, it's still great to put on the game, and Galaxian's not bad... Hands down, this is one of the best games for N64, and it's really addicting; these games are classics for a reason. As for the control issues, I've found that the joystick isn't good for Pac Man and Dig Dug, but the D-pad (you can use it too) works great, so I really have no complaints whatsoever about this game, except for I miss Missile Command, which I suppose wasn't Namco... Buy the game, you'll be glad you did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great home versions of these arcade classics, December 19, 2000

"Namco Museum 64" is almost a flawless game for what it is. It's a collection of some of the most popular arcade games ever. It has Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, Galaxian, Pole Position, and Dig Dug. Everybody is familiar with the classic Pac-Man games, Galaga and Galaxian are space shooting games where the bugs, or aliens, fly down at you, Pole Position was one of the first great racing games ever made, and Dig Dug is a fun underground adventure where you have to kill subterranian monsters. In all the games you can play 1 or 2 players. The graphics in all the games are 100% identical to the arcade games, and the control is perfect in all the games. Not to mention that these games are just as fun now as they were almost 20 years ago.

All my life I've been playing all these games in the arcades except for Galaxian and I have to say that the games in "Namco Museum 64" are almost exactly like the blockbuster arcade versions of these games. My only complaints are that it would've been great if the super fast version of Ms. Pac-Man could've been included as an option, and that some of the sounds of the games aren't exactly like the arcade versions. There's also a little bit of scrolling involved in Dig Dug because the whole game screen doesn't fit on the television, and the Pac-Man cinemas aren't quite exact replicas. But these flaws don't take much away from "Namco Museum 64." If you've ever like playing these games in the arcades or if you want to get a game for nostalgic reasons, I definitely recommend getting "Namco Museum 64," it's one of the best buys ever in the video game industry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Video Games Reviewer, November 8, 2001
This review is from: Namco Museum 64 (Game Cartridge)
Namco Museum for the N64 is a really good retro game. Individuals 25 years and older will remember these games well. For those individuals who are younger than 25, Namco Museum provides an opportunity to play some of the classic videogames that started the whole video game frenzy. Namco Museum consists of 5 games. Ms. Pac-Man, Galaxian, Galaga, Dig Dug, and Pole Position. Ms. Pac-Man everyone knows about. Galaxian and Galaga are Space Invader type games, Dig Dug is a unique digging and destroying enemies game, and Pole Position is the classic arcade steering wheel racing game. All games are great fun for a quick pick up and play. The lack of a battery save feature for high scores (reasoning for 4 stars) is sort of a disappointment, but writing scores down is not that tedious of an ordeal. Overall, Namco Museum is a great port of the arcade classics for a quick 5 minute game between class, meetings, or a lunch break, and is a good addition to everyone's N64 library.

Glaga and Glaxian are basically similar and the controls are ridiculous.....simply innefficient. DIG DUG and Pole Position are fine, but again the controls leave much to be desired, creating a level of difficulty that is simply too high to provide a fun challenge. All of that aside, these games are pretty cool, and pretty addictive. For FUN, i give it 5 STARS, for CONTROLS, i only give 3 STARS. figure out that average, and then go buy the game anyway..... it's a lot of fun and nostalgia.
