3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Diana L. Mercer on December 3, 2009
Format: Hardcover
Janet Johnston and Vivienne Roseby are two of the most well respected custody researchers in the country. The 1st edition was the gold standard of contested custody must-reads, and this 2nd edition is equally valuable. The book addresses different age groups chapter by chapter and explains the developmental issues which come up for each age group in high conflict divorces. While the parents may be out of control, and there's probably little if anything the legal system can do about that, thanks to this book divorce practitioners can at least understand how to craft developmentally sound parenting plans for children of high conflict divorce and to also understand what they're going through. We have several copies of this book in our mediation office's client library. I've seen Janet Johnston speak on a number of occasions, and she's so knowledgeable...this book is a great resource.

I agree with every thing the previous reviewer wrote; however, she neglected to mention (I suppose she is unaware) Kathryn Kuehnle, Ph.D. (Keen-ly) and her outstanding and authoritative work. Dr. Kuehnle has been asked to speak at national and international conferences, conventions, workshops, testify in court on behalf of children, and she has authored, co-authored, and been asked to contribute to many publications over the past 30+ years. This is an excellent book; however, I advise you to check out Dr. Kathryn Kuehnle's books.
