This review is from: The Name of the Flower, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I bought this manga tonight and read it in one sitting. It is very heartwarming and memorable. The characters are very amusing and likeable and the humor is subtle and enjoyable. It is drawn in a cute style, with moments of chibi-ness that reminded me a bit of Rurouni Kenshin. I found the chibi moments to be charming rather than overdone, but it would depend on preference. Although cute and humourous, it does have a deeper side and an intelligent plot. It centers around two troubled people who are trying to find meaning in the world and overcome the darkness in their lives. I found that the melancholy side of the story was nicely balanced with the lighter, more humorous side, so that neither side took over the story, which could have had made it either too silly or too dark. Overall, a very enjoyable read. I myself am not fond of romantic comedy films or tv, but when it comes to manga, some of them are just the right amount of charming to make me like them.
