4.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Character Study, October 2, 2009

This review is from: The Name of Hero (Kindle Edition)
I ordered this book for my Kindle because I was interested in the Boxer Rebellion and other than some general histories hadn't found any good novels that gave a feel of the period. This book is a fictional story based upon a real life character( Alexander Bulatovich) and events. The Russian side of the Boxer Rebellion is rarely mentioned in the literature and histories. So it is a unique story about a very unique character. I will say Richard Seltzer did a great job of bringing this character life. At the end I was sad for the book to end and really wanted it to continue. Bulatovich was a very unique individual whose real life exploits would make many interesting stories. Look him up on Google or Wikipedia. This book focuses just on the Boxer Rebellion period and deals with the very short campaign in which he leads a group of Russian Cavalry. Usually regarded by others as some kind of heroic and charismatic leader who displays great bravery in battle, he in fact, has enormous self doubts and muddles his way through many dangerous situations before his luck finally runs out. If you are interested in the Boxer Rebellion or historical war fiction, I think you will like this story. For the $.99 Kindle price, you can't go wrong with book.
