The colors, the images, the constantly changing nature of Name Painting, and its emphasis on unique expression make it unlike any other kind of artistic creation. If you have ever seen someone name painting, you will always remember the experience. Both children and adults are mesmerized watching the quick, fluid movements of Name Painters painting a person s name with colorful figures and objects, using water-based paints. People of all ages are thrilled to receive a banner with the letters of their name hand painted in a style of this art form. Review

Rating: 3 & 1/2 stars out of 5 Stars Reviewed by: John L. Hoh, Jr. Name painting is an ancient Chinese art. When you look at Chinese characters you can see how a calligraphized art form would spring forth. There have been some who see stories in the characters themselves, such as a creation story. This book merges this art form with the Roman alphabet. In this art form one uses images in flowing motion to create the letters to names and words. Take my name, I can recreate my name with dolphins (aquamarine and tangerine, of course) so I can artistically promote my favorite football team. Other styles include butterflies, bamboo, hearts, flowers, lighthouses, sailboats, sunsets, and dragons (just to name a few). Mix and match for added effect, such as my dolphin example where I can join my dolphins with sunsets, footballs, and whatever else I might want to add. The book takes the reader through an introduction to the art, a listing of tools and materials, a primer on technique, and a section on brush strokes. Different letter styles are also explored. Finally, step-by-step instructions to create various letters are explore from A to Z. The alphabet and styles are not exhaustive but merely to offer examples. For more examples and a broader representation of alphabet styles see Ms. Wang's The Art of Name Painting. This book focuses on learning the art. --bookideas.com

4.0 out of 5 stars A good and interesting way to paint your name, October 24, 2007
This review is from: How to Name Paint (Paperback)
How to Name Paint is a step-by-step introduction to the art of name painting using art forms for the letters of the English alphabet that both children and adults will enjoy. The book contains step by step instructions to the author who is trained in China and the example creations are indeed very appealing. You can see sample pages of the book and other books, kits by the same author at her website, [...]

I enjoyed looking at her art creations, though I did not try out anything myself.

In her companion book, Each letter of the alphabet is painted in five different styles in The Art of Name Painting (76 pages Softcover ISBN-13: 978-9791979-0-1 8.5 x 11 inches)

If you enjoy art, esp. painting, you can certainly go for this fun activity.
