A very funny look inside the world of basketball outside the glamour of the NBA. It was very entertaining, funny, witty, and a really good read. I would suggest to anyone that is a sports fan or may have played sports through jr high and high school to pick this book up.

This book reminded me of Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential" - a book the now-famous celeb chef and travel guru penned based on his experiences as a line cook well before becoming a wildly successful celeb chef. In the same way, "If My Name Was Phil Jackson..." is an entertaining, insightful, humorous peak behind the scenes into the real world of coaching, a world very different from what is seen if you've only viewed basketball through the lens of NBA and the NCAA tournament. It's inspiring to any real "working" coahces - and those aspiring to become one - to stick with it and, even more importantly, to enjoy the ride.

Sports books are not always page-turners, but this one will have you wondering what will happen next. If you have ever coached at any level, you will enjoy and relate.

This book is not just about basketball, but about the tenacity & journey of not taking no for an answer in the pursuit of dreams! It really represents the ups & downs of getting where or what one wants, and identifies that the trip is more than the destination - it's what defines us, and has the potential to build or break our character.

Rick Turner's book "If my Name was Phil Jackson ... would you read this?" created a new genre of sports book -- one where what matters is not the author, but the story. In this book, we read about the mysterious underbelly of semi-professional basketball (i.e., everything outside the NBA). If Rick Turner's goal was to entertain his readers and take us along a wild journey of basketball comedy, then his book is a smashing success. I could not put the book down and came away from it hoping and wishing that someone gives Rick a shot to coach another basketball team, if only so we can get a sequel! If you are a sports fan, or even if you just want to be entertained by some high comedy characters, absolutely do not hesitate and buy this book RIGHT NOW. You'll thank me for the adventure recommendation.
