It's a cute game really, and I hate to give it a lackluster review because I'm guessing that people who aren't music junkies like me would probably have a lot of fun with it. But for people like me (and most of my friends) the actual gameplay is waaaaaaaaaaay too easy. I've played through the game 3 times since purchasing it, and only one of the games took longer than 10 minutes, and that was just because I kept getting bumped back by one of the other players.
There are lots of good questions in the deck - and the fact that they have an Expert deck helps (though the Expert deck is considerably smaller and really not that much harder), but the game board is too short, and there are too few clips on the DVD (as others have mentioned). I have a small technical gripe about the DVD too - it's really hard to tell which category you've highlighted on the main menu. The Bid Avid round is a bit clunky as well, but it's still workable. Also, it should be noted (for us Americans) that this game seems to have been created by folks in the UK, as a lot of the questions pertain to things that were more popular across the pond. The real give-away to this was one of the Video Trivia question answers, where it a flashlight was called a torch. (At least I'm pretty sure that's not American lingo...) All in all, it's not awful, but if I'd been able to play it before buying, I probably would have skipped buying it.

Name That Tune 80s Edition is probably the most fun and interactive 1980s game on the market. This game is all about the music, bands and videos of the 1980s. The game includes 110 question cards and 55 expert cards. The directions say that the game is meant to be played with a minimum of three players but you can modify the game and play with two players. There are no dice to roll. At the beginning of game play you choose a game piece. According to the game directions the youngest player starts first. Another player then will ask the player's whose turn it is to answer a trivia question. The trivia question will correspond with the number on the board. For instance, you will start play in the #1 spot, so the other player will ask you a #1 question on the card. There are 6 questions on each trivia card. The questions in the 1, 2 and 3 spots are easier than the questions in the 5 and 6 spot.
After a player moves 6 spots they then move to the circle area. This is when the DVD play beings for the most part. There are some DVD questions on the cards but they do not come up often in the trivia cards. The first DVD circle is Name That Group. When the DVD clip is played you have a short amount of time to name the group. Some of the groups that came up during game play were easy--Queen, The Ramones, and Wham to name a few. Other groups that appeared on the DVD were not very well known to even the most die hard 80's buffs who participated during my review. Groups such as 10cc, Stimulation and a video by Phillip Oakey and Giorgio Morodor stumped the entire group. One thing that was clear in the three times I played the game is that certain clips will appear over quite quickly. The game directions make it known that clips will reappear but in different categories and with different questions. They also say that a different assortment of videos would appear when you put the DVD in each time. In all three game plays the same video clips from Kool and the Game, Europe, and Queen appeared. However, once we said let's just play Bid A Vid after normal game play ended we saw a lot of clips we hadn't seen prior. We saw clips from Mister Mister, Information Society, and Katrina and the Waves among others. The game is won win someone wins the "Bid A Vid." This is when a player says they can name a video in a certain amount of time. It's fairly easy to win the "Bid A Vid." The most fun was had when we just decided to navigate the DVD and guess the answers. It was very enjoyable and I hope this product is a success so that refill DVD's are released.

I love this game very much.
I recently we bought this game while I was on vacation with my boyfriend. We played it a lot in that time. It was awesome. Weird to say that. But it was. If you love the 80's and you know their music it's fun. I do say that it's not for those with only a small knowledge of the music. There are 5 triva questions to go through and they get harder as you go on. Some are hard. Some aren't as hard. The first 3 are multiple choice so a little easier. The video part is so much fun. It's just fun to play and watch parts of these videos. One of the best games I have ever played. So much fun.

I recently played this game with a group of friends. We are all in our 30s so we grew up in the 80s. Several of us consider ourselves to be very knowledgable when it comes to 80s popular music. This game was not very fun. It seems to be based on UK and/or Australian charts. We found much of the content to be obscure for Americans.

This is one of the best games I've played in a while. It is perfect for any true '80s fan like me! My favorite part is the DVD -- it has all these music video clips that totally bring you back to the best decade!<br />
A great buy!

I purchased this game this weekend at Target for a dinner get together I was having. This game, for lack of a better word, sucks. The questions are way too easy, and all the clips on the DVD were either INXS, David Bowe, Queen or Wham. Like another reviewer said, it seemed like the DVD was on a loop of the same 10 videos. Also, it seemed to focus mostly on the very early 80's. The low point of the game is when there was a "name that group" category question on the DVD , and the video clip they showed actually had a banner that said Wham! behind George Michael dancing! It was really sad. This game is a waste of time for it's $34.00 price tag. Get Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture edition, it's much more fun and diverse.

I want to ditto a few points mentioned below. The menu for the DVD is a real pain. It is so hard to tell which box you are on, and then, you can't pause or fast forward the DVD, so you're stuck with a 20-25 sec. clip. It got aggravating after a while.
We also joked while playing it that a lot of the songs were UK/Australian. You should view this as a warning. A lot of the questions were pretty easy, but there were some challenging ones. However, when we got to the final Name That Tune section we would just make the other person name the tune in however many seconds they wanted because we knew that so many of them were so obscure that you could safely win by making the other person guess the question and get it wrong (thus giving you a point). We were really excited to play the game, and gameplay is okay, but even for connoisseurs the UK stuff makes it a too much, and the DVD menu and playback problems were really just bad enough for me to really not want to play it much more in the future.

Bought this game for an '80s party I threw and it rocked!!
Love the Name That Tune concept and glad they brought it back. I'm a big '80s fan so this is great for anyone who love '80s music. Good mix of questions and everyone had a great time playing it! The DVD part of the game is SO cool. The video clips were a total flashback! Totally nostalgic!! If you like '80s music, this is the game to buy!

I have no idea how you could turn a game about the decade of music that included the New Wave and Big Hair Rock Band music genres into a snoozefest. Somehow, the makers of Name That Tune manage it.
The speed of the game is painfully slow. There is no reason that a DVD game can't be fun and well-paced (see: "Scene It!" collection of games). But this isn't. The music selections go from obscure to just plain bad (and not in a good way). They don't make good use of the DVD/video format. We have a whole decade of MTV Videos (when MTV played videos) that they could show and yet you won't find them here. Save yourself some money and skip this game.

I bought this game for my best friend who I went to high school with in the 80s. We had such a good time playing this and laughing at the videos. We were surprised at how much we remembered. I highly recommend this game to any child of the 80s who wants to revisit and poke fun at themselves. (Gads! Did I actually wear clothes like THAT!)
