4 1/2 ***** THE DAY IS HERE!,
By dickydo "Richie D" (Warwick, RI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Name the Day! (Audio CD)
The day is indeed here. It's a day where John Nemeth's coronation as today's top contemporary blues performer is complete. Nemeth, has ALL the goods, and then some. You would think with his relentless touring schedule his studio work would suffer. "Name The Day" continues a torrid streak of excellent releases. This is modern blues at it's finest, blues and soul that gives a knowing nod to the past, while firmly rooted in the present. Nemeth's calling card may be his sensational voice, but his blistering harp work really shines on this disc. "Why Not Me" and I Said Too Much, with their gospel influences would make any past and present R&B and Soul great get up and take notice. The punchy title track would probably be a radio hit in another era. So why not 5 stars! Well, a track like "Heartbreak With A Hammer" is pretty cliched, but it's a small criticism. Nemeth's dynamic and versatile vocals elevate just about anything. It's one thing to have great pipes, but the ability to pull back is what has elevated him to the pantheon of modern Blues vocalists. Get on board with this guy, three outstanding discs in a row, and a magnificent live performer to boot. What more can you ask for?

Blow You Away,
This review is from: Name the Day! (Audio CD)
You can't hear a better "young" blues singer in the biz today than John Nemeth. Originally he did alot of covers now all the material on Name the Day is from his own creative genious. He is winning blues awards, soon to be Grammies, and next a movie. Go John go.

This CD begs the listener to bust a move. Come on and dance. Get up. Get your hands in the air! Sing along with some great, movin', party startin' R&B. New! Hot! Jammin'! R&B is alive and well! This guy is doin' it right!
