I have a very eclectic collections of pens, from old restored gorgeous vintage pens to very high end, expensive Montegrappas and Omas. I have been using Vanishing Points for well over 12 years now and for some strange reason, although I love my other pens, I always seem to come back to the Vanishing Points. I simple love the VR's and the black and blue Carbonesque are truly beautiful colors. Even with all my high end pens, I always seem to find myself reaching for one of my VP's. I think the reason is the VP is just so simple to use, does not leak, I do not walk around with ink all over my hands and cloths, and I can use bottled or cartridge ink. Its just such an easy pen to use, and I love that if you press the top of the pen, the fountain pen nib comes out when you click it again it just retracts, just like a regular pen. What a wonderful concept. I also feel safe flying in a plane with them, as I have never had one leak. I have found all my VP nibs smooth (Japanese sizes are a bit smaller then American though).

However, if you want the best writer possible, get your nib specialized for you by just contacting Richard Binder (Richardspens.com) or John Mottishaw (nibs.com) and you will get a nib to die for (I have no affiliation with these men, but they have both fixed a few nibs for me in the past I love!).
In conclusion, get a VP...they are fun and a great writer!

I seem to have inadvertently become a pen collector--nothing too esoteric, mind you, just sleek, smooth-writing pen that balance well in the hand, please the eye, & work well where paper meets ink. The Namiki Vanishing Point does all of this & more. Its 18k nib is glorious; I love writing with it. Fyi, tho, the "fine" nib runs a bit toward "extra fine," by American & European standards, and so on with the other available nibs. Also, one of the reasons I may have had such a smooth go of it is, I think, because I recently discovered Iroshizuku ink, made by Namiki, which is the slickest (literally), prettiest ink I've ever used--& is certainly the ink made for Namiki pens. All in all it is a blissful experience. I love the sleek look; I love the way the writing instrument rests in my hand; I love the way it lays ink on the paper. & its packaging! What a hoot. I was tempted to keep the pen in its "box" as display. But I ended up using its "box" as a picture frame. Best pen packaging ever! This modern, innovative pen is a winner. Or at least it is one of my faves in my own growing collection. Hope your experience is as positive as mine.

I have owned this pen two months now & come back to add, I still love this fountain pen. The vanishing point mechanism that seals the nib away when you aren't using it protects the ink from drying out well. My pen has never missed starting right up, even after a couple days of no use. And the pen's reservoir must be decent sized. I am still writing with the ink I put in 2 months ago, while I have had to refill every converter in my rotation of pens in the same period.

Yes, I love pens. I have far too many. I know it makes no sense. But it's better, I suppose, than having too many cars or houses or televisions. However, I never buy fountain pens -- they're just too much trouble. They leak, don't travel well, require messy maintenance and are generally too finicky. Not this Namiki (Pilot) Vanishing Point pen. It's a clever design that is (in matte black) beautiful, simple to use, leak-proof and as maintenance free as a ball point. Yet it's a fountain pen, so you still get that authentic, old world feel that reminds you of what it must have been like to sign the Declaration of Independence.

Yes, I got the Namiki fountain pen for a Christmas gift and I was so delighted to have a retractable pen at that. However, the clip feels a bit in the way. Do we really need this pocket clip? I wish it was gone. I want where I hold the pen to be free of any form of clutter, clips and all. Otherwise, the pen writes smoothly and it is one of the best pens I have ever had.

Best pen i have used. Looking forward to purchasing another. When using a fine nib, the pen still writes on the page without catching or skipping. Very comfortable even with the pen clip on the front of the barrel. I am a student and use the pen daily. The matte coat does not have a clear coat on top making it highly vulnerable to scratching. The pen scratches easily exposing a gold barrel. I personally like the scratches arguing it adds a personality to the pen but if scratched pens are not your thing, I would look at a vanish point with the clear coating. Highly recommend the pen
