Biography

(April 7, 2004- New York, NY) Nana Mouskouri jazzes things up with her inspired recording, Nana Swings. The idea for the disc came after the success of her cult album, Nana Mouskouri in New York, produced by Quincy Jones in 1962. By continuing to go against the grain, she shows new and old fans just how diverse the Greek songstress can be. To commemorate this new recording, Nana Mouskouri in New… Read more in Amazon's Nana Mouskouri Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Nana's top-selling gem of an album in the Netherlands, April 12, 2001
This review is from: Nana's Book of Songs (Audio CD)
I'm a French fan of Nana :I own around 250 different albums, CDS and singles/EPs by her in 8 or so different languages. This one stands out as a real gem, so it should come as no surprise that Nana received a diamond record award for it in the Netherlands in the mid 70's. My favourite song on this 1996 re-release in CD format is Nana's excellent English cover of Brel's "Le moribond", i.e. "Seasons in the Sun" (with moving lyrics by Rod McKuen), but her emotional range also transpires in pieces such as "Wedding Song", "Fire and Rain" (the James Taylor song), her English version of Edith Piaf's "Les trois cloches" or "If you go away", (Nana's English version of Brel's unforgettable plea "Ne me quitte pas")."After the Gold Rush" and "Tapestry" add a dreamy and refreshing touch to this album. The bonus tracks that have been added to the CD afford another insight into Nana's hits and evergreens in English and Greek. The outstanding choice of songs and the impeccable interpretation (soft and powerful in turn, with a whole gamut of nuances in-between) make it a must buy!
