I read all of the Nancy Drew books when I was a kid, so I was intrigued when I saw that there are now computer games based on the books. Although I'm now 35, I decided to purchase a few and see how I liked them (I figured that if they were too "childish" for me, I could always give them to my niece...). However, that was not to happen, as I absolutely love playing them!
One of the best features of these games is that there's several levels to choose from - beginner to expert - and this will allow you to decide just how hard you want the game to be. The difference between the levels is the number & type of hints you get along the way. This particular game is one of my favorites. It was actually quite difficult, and so I found it to be a wonderful challenge. The graphics are excellent, and you really get that mysterious feeling as you traverse this old, spooky castle. If you liked reading Nancy Drew, you'll absolutely love playing these games! They are great for kids and adults alike. However, regardless of your age, if you haven't played too many Nancy Drew games, I'd recommend that you go with the beginner level for this game - if not, you may get frustrated quite easily.

Her Interactive's series continues with this latest entry, another one taken from one of the classic books. This one is on the scary side, with mysterious noises, dark tunnels, ominous warnings, and a plethora of creepies that all strike at 3:15 a.m., for some reason.
Be forewarned, however: This game is harder than the others, with more difficult puzzles and fewer in-game hints available. (Neither of Nancy's hint-spewing friends is available, which in some ways is a good thing -- their hints were usually vague and their personalities annoying.) You may very well need a walkthrough to manage all the puzzles, especially if you don't play a lot of these games. Game play is smooth and intelligent, as always. Graphics are charming and clear, without being masterpieces. The writing and acting are fine, though the not-quite-convincing English voices get a little old. Interface is simple and intuitive, as with all the ND games. Ingenious and gripping. More, more!

Overall, this game is excellent! It has several new elements that previous Nancy Drew games do not. To begin with, this is the first game to have an animal that you can interact with. Also, this is the first game to have a younger character in the game at all. I really liked this game because it has quite a few games to play and "tasks" to complete. The characters interesting; however; you don't get to interact with some of them very often. This Nancy Drew game is definitely one of the scariest and most "real." It doesn't leave you feeling incomplete-it took me the most time out of all the games to finish. I would absolutely suggest buying it!

This was the first Nancy Drew game I played and it got me hooked. My husband was walking by during one of the puzzles I was trying to solve and he sat down to see what it was about and ended up playing the entire game with me. We both found this game to be very challenging and addictive. This is a great game for all ages although it might be a little scary for some youngsters.
One thing that we found amusing about this game was a little hidden text. There is a challenge where you will go downstairs to a room (kind of like a lab) and read some letters and notes. This is towards the end of the game. The main part you are supposed to read is darker than the rest of the text. If you strain and read the lighter text, you will see some interesting things there. It's been a while since we played it so I don't remember the exact text but it had to do with views towards the current president. We thought it was amusing that the writer/programmer put that in there. Overall a great game with some difficult puzzles.

I am surprised at the number of mediocre reviews for this splendid game.I loved it! I am rather amused at the "10 years old and up" on the cover..they had probably no idea that "up" in one case at least is aged 76, me- and that's really up.
The graphics are very fine. The puzzles are hard and you are obliged to play several games with the little girl in the story, Jane, in order to obtain certain tools to proceed. These games within the game did get a bit tedious, but I am was hopelessly slow at "Petroglyph Punch" and the like. And it took me five tries to gather up 13 ghosts milling around the manor. When something is timed I panic. I'm like my cats who vanish if I even look at the door where the vacuum cleaner is kept. The voice acting is very good, and if the British accents aren't authentic, so what. The images of the characters are very well done, the gestures and mouth synchronization very natural. Mrs. Drake is particularly good, she's rather like a watered down version of Mrs. Danvers. I could not have finished this game without the help of a walkthrough. The puzzles are hard. But the fact that I always cheat like mad doesn't bother me ar all and I never have felt that the game is spoiled one whit with the heavy use of a walkthrough. If you can finish this game without assistance, more power to you. But take it from an old lady- this game is fun and if you have to sweat a bit here and there, that's part of the whole adventure game enchilda.

Blackmoor Manor,

I did enjoy The Curse of Blackmoor Manor very much. The setting is nice, and the alchemy tie-in was especially intriguing. I agree with some of the other reviewers that there was too little ground to explore. Mrs. Drakes's room and the kitchen both feel like teases. It definitely would have been nice to be able to leave the grounds, to go to the pub that provides Nancy's food, for instance, or to be able to go outside at the least. I disliked having to spend so much time in the main hall.
Otherwise, the game was fun and engaging, with especially good atmosphere.

So far, after playing about 5 Nancy Drew games this is my least favorite due to the obvious difficulty of it. The story line is great and this should have been one of the best games in the series but they made it so difficult and put in too many "red herrings". If you play this game, it is much more fun to have the walkthrough printed so you can follow along during the many impossible puzzles. It is also the longest Nancy Drew game I played so far. Her Interactive needs to understand the difference between being "fun" challenging and "boring" challenging as this game was at many times. Not a waste of money but should have been much much better.

I got this game as soon as it game out, and it is the best game I ever played! It was more thrilling than all of the other Nancy Drew games. Curse of Blackmoor Manor also had great, not to mention interesting, characters.

Having grown up on Nancy Drew mystery books, I lept on the very first ND computer game, and have looked forward to each new one over the years like cherished visits from an old friend.
The Curse of Blackmoor Manor has had the most challenging puzzles to date (I was forced, at one point, to start the game over in Jr. Detective mode to figure one of them out) and the graphics are rich and wonderful. My only complaint is that you are completely restricted to the manor house. I would have loved to have been able to prowl around the darkened grounds of the centuries old manor! To make up for this single flaw, they'va also included some interesting hidden passageways (naturally :-) and several slightly spooky moments (although I would have loved a bunch more!)

This game is so cool! I'm am 11 years old, and I am a boy. Ever sence my grandma gave me a Nancy Drew game, I started to get one after an other. Now I've got every one of them. Numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13, and 14. They are all so cool. The sad thing is, is that when I got every one of them so quick I've got to keep on waiting every year until the next one comes out. So, what i've been doing is, getting different kind of games untill the next Nancy Drew comes out. I've been starting to get some C.S.I games. They are really cool too! Right now i'm waiting to get the 15th Nancy Drew game( The creature of Kapu cave). Just to tell everybody, this game is rated EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!! Which means it is not a game just for girls! Even if it was, then who cares? Just like girls say, they can do anything that boys can do.So, if we turned the phrase around then it would show my point.
