I have played every Nancy Drew PC game and have enjoyed them all (some more than others). I was looking forward to this release from the time I heard about it and even pre-ordered a copy before it came out to make sure I got one.
It really is like simply following a story. When you walk into an area, everything you need to check out already has magnifying glasses on it. All exits are already marked with symbols. To "solve" things, like getting a character to talk or opening a locked door, you just have to play some very simplistic mini-games. Everything was much too easy and the game can be finished in just one day. It would have been a much better game if they had made it a little harder. You should have to look around to find the things you need in a room. You should have choices of where to go, not automatically be sent to the next thing you need to do. Maybe it would be a good choice for a young child, but if you enjoyed the Nancy Drew PC games and are expecting something similar, don't waste your money. Or at least wait to find a used copy because they should be available in stores within another day or two.

Like the previous reviewer, I'm hooked on the Nancy Drew PC games and pre-ordered this one. There is no challenge to this game at all, you walk through rooms and everything that you are supposed to see is highlighted. The mini games that you play to make characters more willing to talk are extremely easy. It might be an ok game for a child, but if you're an adult and want something that even remotely resembles the Her Interactive PC games, don't waste your money on this.

Fun Adventure Game for Younger People,

If I was 13 - I'd enjoy this game. The game has an engaging story and interesting characters to meet. The graphics are quite good for a DS game also. Yes, the game features several mini-games. Younger people will enjoy the minigames and will find this to be a fun and engaging game.
If you are looking for a good choice for a young child, and a beginning adventure gamer this game is a very good start. Very similar to "Hanna Montana" and other younger people adventures. Which is a good thing because most young people enjoyed "Hanna Montana" or "Touch Detective" as well. For adults - stick to "Hotel Dusk" which is a much harder and adult orientated adventure.

I've been a Nancy Drew fan since I was a small girl. I've enjoyed playing all the other titles for the PC and enjoyed playing the one that came out in GBA form. I was really looking forward to this game with hopes and expectations that they had done an even better job than they did with the GBA game. Sadly, I was let truly let down due to their lack of use of the touch screen (which for a game like this would have been great), and lack of a good sleuth challenge (even my teenager says it didn't challenge). I hope that if they create more Nancy Drew titles for the DS they do a better job. But for a small beginner like my niece (age 9) it was fun for her (even when we had to read some of the bigger words for her). Maybe they should find a way to get some of their PC titles to DS format for those of us who truly enjoy Nancy Drew.

I bought this game for my 9-year-old daughter. Her older sister & I enjoy the computer Nancy Drew games, but they are a little too hard/scary for my youngest. She really enjoyed this game -- it is perfect for the girls who want to play the other games, but aren't quite ready. It took her a few days to complete, and was just challenging enough that it kept her interested, but not frustrated.

I think a lot of the negative comments about this game can be categorized as "failed to meet expectations". A lot of folks have played the Her Interactive Nancy Drew adventure games for PC and expected this game to be similar.
That complaint doesn't apply to me, since I haven't played any of the PC games, so had no preconceived idea of how the game should progress/be played going in. So....I enjoyed it. Yes, it's very linear and very simple to get through. Everything you need to do is marked and your hand is held all the way through (you are directed what to do next, exits are marked, items to investigate and people to query are all marked). But I still enjoyed it. I liked the story, liked the graphics and didn't mind that I had no aimless wandering about to do. Nothing aimless because the appropriate direction was always very clear. Another major complaint people have is that the game is too short. If I'd paid list price when the game first game out, I'd have been upset, too. But now, the game has been out 2-3 years, and it's readily available for a fraction of list price. At under ten bucks, I thought I got my money's worth. I enjoyed the story and enjoyed re-visiting Nancy Drew--haven't give the girl detective much thought in many, many years!

It's bad. If you want to play a fun DS detective game, get Touch Detective. With this game, it's hard to manuever around - you have to use the + keys, not the touch screen; it's mostly reading - not much sleuthing; the games are easy - like 5-year-old easy; everything is highlighted the minute you walk into a room. The touch screen is hardly used! The PC Nancy Drew games are fun. This one is a dud and a waste of money. I pre-ordered hoping it would be good. Blech.

It is a cute game but no where near as exciting as the PC games. I hope that they figure out a way to make it more like those.

I play the Nacy drew PC games and thought the DS games would be just as fun. They are, at least this one isn't. It felt like the game was playing its self.
