4.0 out of 5 stars A Standing Ovation for The Final Scene August 16, 2010
Platform for Display:PC Download|Verified Purchase
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a spoiler-free review.

PLOT: 7/10
As the fifth one in the Nancy Drew series, this is the first that Nancy has become personally involved in as her friend has been kidnapped, and she must find out why and how before the theatre in which the kidnapping took place is demolished. As far as plots go, this one was rather interesting, though unoriginal, and I felt personally involved to save the friend and theatre during gameplay.

CHARACTERS: 9/10
The characters were fascinating, and wonderfully ambiguous. Everyone had a motive, something to hide, and a means. Nancy Drew herself, unfortunately, was unusually annoying in this game. Her frantic speech was tolerable at the beginning of the game (as the friend had been taken right under her nose), but her never-ceasing panicking and unfounded screaming rampages at *everyone* was completely unnecessary for a detective who is usually very level-headed.

SETTING: 8/10
A old theatre is a wonderful setting for a mystery, especially one that housed Harry Houdini himself. The only complaint is the rather confusing directional arrows that tend to only appear in one spot that can make navigating the complex hallways frustrating.

PUZZLES: 4/10
Sadly, the majority of the game is spent talking to people, making it more of a mental mystery than a physical one. While this is fine for a book, it made the game easy to complete, due to the scarcity and simplicity of the puzzles. Also, the game was not very straightforward, and I had to call for hints on what to do next many times.

LENGTH: 4/10
A very short game that is supposed to take place over the course of three whole days. Perhaps more puzzles might have lengthened it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Game! November 28, 2011

Great game! This is one of those "classic" Nancy Drew games. Nancy must find her friend that was kidnapped at the Royal Palladium Theater. Also, for anyone concerned about whether it works on a laptop with Windows 7, fear not. This download plays just fine, with no delays, on my laptop that I've had for about four months (bought it brand new with Windows 7). Thank you amazon for having an older game that can be hard to play on newer computers! Having it made for vista/xp makes it playable on windows 7!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Fun!! September 9, 2010

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I had very high expectations for this game and overall it didn't disappoint. I really wanted this game but having Windows 7 and this game being for XP really made me bummed but then I found the download for Vista. The only really major complaint I have about this game is that it must not have downloaded right and about every other time you tried to move or pick something it stalls the mouse for about 2 or 3 seconds my sister and I found this extremely annoying but after about 20 minutes we got used to it. The game is actually very easy on Junior Detective so if you do get I would advise playing on Senior Detective as it would give you a little more of a challenge. As for the game itself it is very inventive and original. I think it was probably one of the best I've played just because there isn't hardly any puzzles and the puzzles it does have aren't exceptionaly hard.

Overall It was really fun. And I do recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game November 29, 2013
Platform for Display:PC Download|Verified Purchase
This game was really fun for me. I loved the whole idea of a game in a theater. It is the only game where I really felt for the villain. I loved the villain because I felt sorry for him/her. The conclusion was pretty intense, good game.

I like this one because it has a historical plot based around Harry Houdini. It is kind of easy to get stuck in this game because it is based around days, and certain tasks have to be completed entirely before you can move on so it's fairly linear.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but a little too easy. July 19, 2013

I love the theme and the characters but I finished it WAY too quickly. I would replay it again though just for nostalgia purposes.

I have played several ND games throughout the series, and this was a great addition. I would recommend it if you haven't played many ND games before as it is pretty easy and rather short. The game only took me about 3 hours to play, while most games take me upwards of 12 or so hours. I also really didn't like Nancy in this game, usually she is really calm and clever but in this game she seemed to be overreacting and screaming through the whole game and it got to be really annoying. However, what I did like about the game was the story, the characters and the setting. The story was definitely unique because of the kidnapping, and it did have its creepy and exciting moments. The characters were a bit irritating as always, but I find that to make things more interesting, especially when you can't figure out who the culprit is! And the setting was cool too, the theater was a nice change of pace from many of the other ND games.

Bottom Line: the game is short, but fun and exciting, especially if you haven't played any of the newer, more complex ND games.
