4.0 out of 5 stars appropriate for younger gamers
I was disappointed that it was (again) not anything like the Nancy Drew computer games. The graphics are excellent. My two young nephews (6 and 4) who enjoyed the Nancy Drew movie will like the game a lot. They both love I Spy and wanted to play a Nancy Drew video game. This one is easy enough for the 6 year old to navigate and for both of them to find objects. For...

I purchased this game as a gift; the person I gave it to completed the game in 1.5 hours. The graphics look great in the game, and appeared to have a lot of potential. But basically, as Nancy Drew, you spend your time getting lists of missing items from 8 different characters, walk around the mapped estate both indoors and outdoors, find the 5 or 6 items on the list to complete that list. After doing so, you go to the attic of the mansion where the game proceeds to solve itself for you. This game was a huge disappointment to my 'giftee'; if you are going to purchase a Nancy Drew game for the DS, I recommend either of the following: The Deadly Secret of Olde World Park or The Mystery of the Clue Bender Society, which give the player the ability to use deductive reasoning and to solve numerous puzzles throughout.

As a child I loved Nancy Drew. I bought this game hoping for a good mystery. I was sadly disappointed. While the graphics are good, the game itself is very simple and quite boring. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

I had huge hopes for this game, that it might actually be a Nancy Drew game worthy of the title, after mildly disliking the Nancy Drew: The Deadly Secret of Olde World Park and Nancy Drew: The Mystery of the Clue Bender Society series. Don't get me wrong, those titles were fun, but they used mini action video games to solve the puzzles, not brainpower. I had hoped that this would have puzzles to solve, but, alas, it's just a mindless scavenger hunt. For those who want a mystery with puzzles to solve, especially for young girls, a better choice is American Girl Kit Mystery Challenge

It is one of the first games that I've bought for my DS that we could all play.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stick to the Nancy Drew PC Games, October 27, 2008

Having played and enjoyed the Nancy Drew games released for the PC, I was happy and excited to try one on the DS.

Unfortunately, this game is nothing like the engaging and clever PC games. The game consists of exactly 3 'puzzles': a simple hunt and click (which requires no skill, just an ability to move the stylus around the screen), a random go up the stairs game (again, no skill required), and a press the bricks game which is again very simple.

The mystery is laughable and none of the characters are developed -- how could they be? The game can be beat in about 30 minutes. There is no plot, no skill required, and very little at all to do. This game is a complete waste of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what it seems, July 30, 2011

I bought this game thinking it would be like Nancy drew PC games, but in fact its not. Its more of an I-Spy. It has different people and you either talk to them or they'll ask you to find things hidden in the level. Once you find all the things, you go to the next level but there's a catch. There's no way to save the game, so if your almost done finding everything, and you shut it off. The game will reset to the beginning of the level. Its a real pain in the neck. It doesn't even follow the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is this for real?, March 14, 2010

This game is absolutely atrocious. I was excited to get it after being an avid fan of HerInteractive's Nancy Drew games for years. I completed it within an hour and that was only because I had to revisit several rooms because I missed one clickable thing (the game is very confusing as far as directions are concerned). The ending was completely predictable and... this was just awful. The characters should have talked as opposed to just moving their mouths while text read on the top. I thought this was going to be a mystery game - it was just a different type of hidden object game.

1.0 out of 5 stars A very quick game, December 27, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nancy Drew: The Hidden Staircase (Video Game)
I just bought this game last night. I think I beat it in under two hours. I love the PC games, but this was really disappointing. It was pretty boring and there was none of the fun that the other games have. I wish I had read everyone's reviews before I bought it. Save your money. Get a different game.

A Kid's Review
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

I just love the Nancy Drew PC series, so I thought this game would be great, almost exactly the same just on the Nintendo DS. Well, I was definetely WRONG. This game is just plain boring. All you do is search for hidden items in various rooms. The only real sort of challenging puzzle is towards the end of the game, which isn't really great either. Maybe younger gamers would like this game, just for searching the house. But real Nancy Drew players shouldn't buy this. This is NOTHING like the PC version of Nancy Drew! Do not waste your money!
