5.0 out of 5 stars Secret of the Scarlet Hand
Although I am 35 years old, I thoroughly enjoy playing the Nancy Drew Games. Being able to choose between 2 or 3 different levels of difficulty allows you to make the game harder or easier based on your knowledge of how the games work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Scarlet Hand Review
Secret of the Scarlet Hand is a good Nancy Drew game but is more geared toward an older, more mature player than a younger player with less patience. It requires more "studying" and learning the Mayan historical facts which I really enjoyed but my 10-year old daughter got sick of very quickly. 4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting characters; etc., August 14, 2005
This review is from: Nancy Drew: Secret Of The Scarlet Hand (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
It's worth the purchase.
Very good graphics, sound effects, background music, and interesting interaction with characters. The historical aspect adds interest, as well. You have plenty of tasks to perform, and if you get stuck, you can find help via phonecalls in the game; or online at Her Interactive web site forum. Keep pen and paper nearby to take notes!

My favorite Nancy Drew games are: Danger on Deception Island, Secret of Shadow Ranch, and Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake. I like all of the ND games, however, and have played all more than once.

Although I am 35 years old, I thoroughly enjoy playing the Nancy Drew Games. Being able to choose between 2 or 3 different levels of difficulty allows you to make the game harder or easier based on your knowledge of how the games work.

This particular game is one of my favorites (so far). Although it was a bit slow-going at first, my interest picked up quickly to the point where I wanted to play all of the time.

"Scarlet Hand" takes place in a museum which is currently getting ready to open a new feature on Mayan culture. Nancy Drew is originally hired to work as an assistant, but her detective skills become much more important after the most expensive piece in the collection is stolen - and all that's left behind is a scarlet hand print.

The graphics are great, and I found the tid-bits re: Mayan culture to be quite interesting! Just make sure to have a pad and pen by your side as you play this game, as there are many codes & bits of info. that you'll need to recall several times -- and at times much later in the game.

I highly recommend this series for anyone who enjoyed reading the Nancy Drew series.

Secret of the Scarlet Hand is a good Nancy Drew game but is more geared toward an older, more mature player than a younger player with less patience. It requires more "studying" and learning the Mayan historical facts which I really enjoyed but my 10-year old daughter got sick of very quickly. Much of what is required in getting to the next level of play is knowledge-based versus "easter egg hunting" or game-playing, which is what is fun for a younger audience. So I personally really liked the information download but my daughter never finished the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like Mayan history, this is the Nancy Drew for you, August 1, 2005
This review is from: Nancy Drew: Secret Of The Scarlet Hand (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
Not sure if the history is correct, but I hope so. There is lots of information to keep track of. I always felt as though I had accomplished something when I was able to answer the various questions asked throughout.

This is a different kind of Nancy Drew, which really kept me hopping. Couldn't wait to get back to it each time I had to leave it. The only reason I didn't rank with 5 stars is that there are a couple of tedious sections in which I wasn't sure what I was supposed to be doing.

If you buy this, you must stay with it to the end. It's that last puzzle that gave me chills.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best Nancy Drew Game, December 12, 2007

I've played nearly every Nancy Drew Game. This one was hard, and wasn't that interesting. The "research" you need to do is boring, and tedious. I never even finished the game, as it was so boring.

4.0 out of 5 stars First ND game,, August 4, 2005
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nancy Drew: Secret Of The Scarlet Hand (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
I liked the game overall, it was different from what I am used to playing (which is good b/c that is why I bought it).

What I liked about it: Very challenging, fun tid-bits to learn,"hot spot" indicator, graphics, good hints when needed, playing detective!

What I didn't like about it: Some of the puzzles were difficult, the narration task was very lengthy and kina tedious, especially the number tile puzzle. The descriptions of the glyphs were not very helpful. I finally went to a cheat sheet for help. Not being able to dial directly from the desk phone to call for help was discouraging. Many little facts to learn was a fun but if I didn't write things down then it slowed the game down because you had to go back and research them (HERinteractive was a huge help).

(...) was great, esp message boards. Spoilers and hints were very helpful because sometimes a nudge in the right direction is what is needed. The only complaint I have is that you can't use "free" email accounts to register which is frustrating. Why not?! Oh well, life goes on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots to learn and do. A favorite of mine., June 26, 2006
This review is from: Nancy Drew: Secret Of The Scarlet Hand (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
I have all the Nancy Drew titles and I really liked this game, Secret of the Scarlet Hand. There are puzzles and trivia. I think this game was a lot of fun. There was a bit to read but learning about something while playing a game is great for my over stressed mind. (I have a toddler, enough said?) I thought the graphics were good and the characters were interesting. I picked up the jewel case for about $9 can't beat the quality entertainment you get for that.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's good for what it is, October 21, 2005
This review is from: Nancy Drew: Secret Of The Scarlet Hand (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
I really like the Nancy Drew books and games, I think this one was a little too hard though. It was difficult to complete the tasks you are given for the internship. I also didn't see the point in them, it was difficult work that didn't apply to the mystery. There was just too many tasks for a simple mystery.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Nancy Drew: Secret Of The Scarlet Hand (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
This game was good, but I've played all of the Nancy Drew games so far, and it wasn't my favorite. However, this game was full of interesting facts about the Mayan culture and history, and I did enjoy it. It was also challenging, which I liked, and it was also addictive and hard to stop playing. In my opinion, this game was the most informative. All in all, this game was fun and enjoyable, if not my favorite.
