I myself read the starter set for Nancy Drew and I found it very exciting and good. It kept me reading and reading. I could not stop! Nancy Drew books are interesting and make you wonder what is going to happen next. When I first read my very 1st Nancy Drew book, I thought it was boring. Until I started to get really into the book. Now I am on the 9th book. Well, going to read the 9th book. I would recommend this to all children 10-12 years old. It is a excellent book and a great book that will make you keep on reading. Until you read them all!

About 1959 these stories were edited and re-published and some of the language was edited out or removed. Recently Applewood Books has re-released the old Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries with the original language. In the new versions Nancy was increased in age from 16 to 18 because it was not thought to be a good idea to have a 16 year-old girl riding around River Heights in her own blue roadster. The original versions refer to black people as Negro or colored and the role of women and minorities is very different from what it is now. In "The Secret of the Old Clock" there is one black person who is the only one in the whole book who talks in slang such as "Sho' 'nuff Miss Nancy." Everyone else in the book is white and is portrayed as talking in correctly spelled English. However I enjoy the original versions more than the cleaned up ones and it gives me a picture of what life was like before World War II in my mother's and father's time. Look for these versions in the Original Nancy Drew series from Applewood Books.

You have got to love all of the Nancy Drew books! I know I do. I own them all. If you haven't ever read one try it and then look me in the eyes and tell me that you didn't like the book. I bet you can't!
