5.0 out of 5 stars Joy To The World
Stunning, beautiful, tasteful, exquisite are the adjectives that come to mind when listening to A Nancy Wilson Christmas. Yet, these words seem inadequate for the joyous musical celebration Nancy offers. This is Nancy's finest album since Lady With A Song in 1989. Her voice has gotten a bit deper, but this brings out a richness in her performance that is quite appropriate...

3.0 out of 5 stars Some good, some bad.
Nancy Wilson is a great lady, but her voice was never one for everyone. This album has some great stuff, but also has some that is unlistenable. The NY Voices, the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni Orchestra are great. I just think that this album should have been edited more and some tracks should never have made it to the final cut.

Her voice has gotten a bit deper, but this brings out a richness in her performance that is quite appropriate for the material. All of the arrangements are sublime, whether combo or big band. The wedding of Nancy's voice with that of the New York Voices is an inspired match. The usual suspects are here...Let It Snow, White Christmas, Christmas Song, and all are delightful. However it is the more religious songs that are the standouts. Sweet Little Jesus Boy and O Holy Night shine. Never has Nancy sung with as much feeling as on her magnificent interpretation of All Through the Night. After the horrors of the last few months, this cd is a comfort and inspiration. The fact that Nancy is donating 100% of her income from this album, only adds to the true holiday spirit evoked by this stellar cd. If this cd does not inspire you, move you and bring you tidings of comfort and joy, then BAH HUMBUG to you. To Miss Nancy Wilson I can only say thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Nancy Wilson Christmas Indeed, November 10, 2001

I have waited years for Nancy to do a Christmas album. I was so excited to discover this new CD. The last of the Jazz Divas has out done herself. It is jazz at its finest. This will certainly make my season bright. I hope you are working on your next CD, Nancy!

5.0 out of 5 stars CHRISTMAS MAGIC FROM MISS NANCY WILSON!!!!!!!!!, December 10, 2001

What a truly sublime album, Christmas or otherwise, this gem is!!! Miss Nancy Wilson, with that jazzy, classy, unmistakable voice, treats us to Christmas standards, making each one her very own. From the opening number, 'Let It Snow', we know we're in for a holiday treat to be enjoyed with a glass of bubbly!!! When Nancy asks, 'What are you doing New Year's Eve?', one can't imagine this gorgeous holiday standard being sung by ANYONE else!!! The New York Voices blend in beautifully on Carol of the Bells, turning this classic into a new 'jazzy Christmas' classic!!! And the shining star on this flawless CD would have to be 'Christmas Time is Here' from 'A Charlie Brown Christmas'! Nancy melts your heart with this one - GUARANTEED!!! Put this CD on 'random play' along with Tony Bennett's Christmas CD & Dave Koz's new Christmas CD, open the champagne while the snow piles up outside, & you're all set for quite a sublime holiday treat!!! Nancy has given us sheer magic this Christmas. A MUST-HAVE CD!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Serve" this one along with the Eggnog, November 23, 2001

The halls will surely be "decked" with Wilson's trademark jazzy interpretations of familiar holiday songs. The artist, backed by a bevy of talented musicians, such as The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Star Big Band and Herbie Mann, is wonderful as she takes on such standards as "White Christmas," "Carol of the Bells," and "Angels We Have Heard on High."

However, it is her versions of "Christmas Time is Here" from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and the Nat King Cole classic "The Christmas Song" that show Wilson at her most captivating and evocative. These are the tunes that bring the spirit of the season alive.

No one does it better than Nancy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Traditional Christmas music with Great new arrangements, November 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Nancy Wilson Christmas (Audio CD)
From the first bar of the first song this CD is fantastic. Miss Wilson puts her stamp on these tunes and the musicianship is the finest.
If you are like I am the Traditional songs seem to get the same old treatment, this CD is very different, refreshing, and most of all it really makes me listen.
5 stars for this performance.

I just received the new Xmas C.D. "A Nancy Wilson Christmas". This is a MUST BUY to be included in your Xmas collection. You will not be disapponted. As always, Nancy adds on her own touch to each track. I am glad she decided to make a Xmas C.D. This is a GREAT C.D!!. Yes, she is a "stylist". I will wait patiently for her next C.D.

you already own this. Let It Snow! and Silver Bells are outstanding. This recording finds Nancy jazzier than she's been lately, and that's not a bad thing. Her fellow artists surround her with fine arrangements, great vocals, plenty of heart and soul. And Nancy's giving all the money away, to a cause she really believes in. How's that for Christmas spirit!

Nancy departed from the shackels of Sony records and what did she do first? She went into the studio of Telarc Jazz and produced one of the finest Christmas albums I've heard. The names of guests on this album reads almost like a who's who in the world of jazz and when you thought it wasn't to get better, she donates all the profits from this album to charity. Nancy is a class act and that class is evident on all the tracks contained here in. For me a stand out track is the Broadway inspired arrangement of "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow." Nancy sounds like she had a great time recording this album and the various arrangements ranging from Big Band to Trio all flow seamlessly. Nancy is a song stylist, her interpretations sometimes don't follow the standards set by other artists performing and producing traditional Christmas albums so do not expect mundane versions of these carols, they belong to Nancy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A BIG SAN FRANCISCO FAN, October 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Nancy Wilson Christmas (Audio CD)
Nancy Wilson is my favorite singer -- there are no exceptions -- and I always expect the best from her. She does not disappoint on this CD, giving these holiday standards her own unique, wonderful turn. Especially nice, with its beautiful ending, is "The Christmas Song." We've all heard it many times, many ways, but never like this -- Liew Matthews' piano is wonderful, in its own right. Jazz fans, and anyone who wants to perk up their holiday collection, can't go wrong with this gem from Miss Wilson.

I just received Nancy Wilson's latest release "A Nancy Wilson Christmas" that was recorded recently. With her unique brand of style, she has made each song her own. It's no wonder she is described as a song "stylist" for she demonstrates her interpretations flawlessly. She has chosen classic as well as contemporary tunes and delivers each with the elegance you've come to know and expect from this classiest of ladies! Miss Nancy will take you places you've never been!! Your Holiday collection will not be complete without this wonderful addition. Enjoy!
