So when I saw this book by her I knew it was a MUST have for my sewing library.
RS
It's a good book for the gadget-curious, but not a must-have library addition for more seasoned stitchers and quilters.

This book is very helpful for a beginner sewer to get to know what you need to sew.

Rest assured that if there if there is a notion to make time spent behind the sewing machine easier or faster, Nancy Zieman knows about it. It's a good book for the gadget-curious, but not a must-have library addition for more seasoned stitchers and quilters. If you are just starting out and trying to figure out what to buy, the book is an excellent guide. The beauty of this book is that if you do the majority of your notions shopping at the two main chain stores, you will discover cool gadgets that aren't carried in those stores.

For each of the notions, Zieman provides a color illustration, its featurss and uses. In some instances, she also provides a budget-friedly option for the notion. Zieman has a wonderfully clear writing style and this book showcases it well. My one complaint is at least with one particular notion, I had to search the web a bit for it. I figured that if this was one of her 101 favorites, it would be stocked at her website.

I was disappointed in the content. For the size and price I expected more helpful hints. I would not purchase this book again. For the beginner it might be more useful

This book is a virtual catalog of tools that every seamstress or dressmaker needs in order to be successful. Granted, some of the items are more specialized, like tools specific to embroidery or quilting, but each item is categorized, as well as being fully described and illustrated, so you'll know whether it's something you need or not. Many of the items shown are standard tools that you simply cannot sew without, such as shears, chalk pencils, pins, and so forth. But then there's tools that not everyone knows about, such as bias tape makers, bodkins, specialty presser feet, and so forth.

My only complaint is that the book occasionally feels like an advertisement for Nancy's Notions. Some of the tools described are made exclusively by Nancy's Notions, so it seems like she's using the book as a platform to sell more of her products. I can forgive this, since many of the exclusive products are, in fact, quite useful tools to have. (But geeze! They're expensive!)

I'll give "Nancy's Favorite 101 Notions" four stars, subtracting a star for the blatant advertising. Otherwise, it's a very useful book for those who are just learning to sew. Even if you're more advanced, you might want to take a look and see if there's any sewing tools you've overlooked. I keep a copy in my sewing library, just so I can loan it to my students.

Wasn't the best use of my $$, but it did reinforce that my sewing room is current and very well-stocked.

I PURCHASED THIS BOOK TO DECIDE WHICH SEWING NOTIONS I NEEDED TO BUY DUE TO A LOSS IN A STORAGE FACILITY FIRE.

SINCE THE ITEMS WERE STORED AWAY IN A SEWING KIT, MANY I HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE FOR A WHILE DUE TO PREVIOUS SURGERY.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT GUIDE AND THE COLOR PHOTOS ARE AMAZING. I LIKE THE WAY THEY DESCRIBE THEM AND THE DIFFERENT WAYS YOU CAN USE THESE TOOLS AND NOTIONS.

I really have enjoyed this book as it clearly describes the tools and their uses. I did not know about some of these, plus some of them have more than one use, some I would not have thought up for myself!

This is a great book for newbies or oldsters alike. You can always pick up a new hint or a bit of new information. This book, particularly has the reasons why you need certain notions to make your sewing a bit quicker and easier. There are so many new things on the market that our mothers who sewed didn't have. It's fun to review them and learn what's out there.
this book was published a while ago but for the price, wanted to buy it so I could go over them again. Sometimes we forget the notions that help us.

I used to watch Nancy on PBS and always loved her way of sewing and constructing. So when I saw this book by her I knew it was a MUST have for my sewing library. I've only glanced through it but I know there are some great ideas and information in it.
