5.0 out of 5 stars A fast, fun read
Stephen Clarke-Willson offers a compelling glimpse into the world of advanced nano-technology. It's fun to imagine the future potential of these little machines, and he provides a number of interesting examples of how they could be used - and, of course, how they could be misused. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but left me unsatisfied...
I'm a fan of high-tech and completely enjoy a good, believable read, based on evolving technology. This book was certainly a believable look at nano-technology. Unfortunately, I found it lacking.

While Nano-Plasm is full of cool ideas, I thought it was poorly written and pretty predictable. It's a very short read, which surprised me for such a fascinating...

4.0 out of 5 stars A light, entertaining read, December 18, 2008
This review is from: Nano-Plasm - A Novel (Kindle Edition)
Nano-plasm is a light, satisfying mystery with enough sci-fi to appeal to your inner geek. Though there are a few awkward passages which will remind you that this is a first novel, the whole thing is so much fun that they are easily overlooked. Between the cool nano-tech, an enjoyably over the top villain, and a special ops insurance agent Nano-plasm is a good time not to be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read, Fun Ride, December 16, 2008

I really enjoyed this book. It describes a world on the brink of discovering the potential of nano-technology. As such it feels like the spiritual predecessor to Neal Stephenson's "The Diamond Age". If you enjoyed "The Diamond Age" you will very likely enjoy this book.

I found the insurance adjuster as protagonist to be an especially interesting and refreshing idea. At the end of the book is an explanation of some of the inner workings of the insurance industry. I found this description so fascinating I thought it was part of the fiction and was surprised to learn that it is indeed true.

This book is full of surprises. It's a great read and a fun ride. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nano-Plasm by Stephen Clarke-Willson--a very good read, November 13, 2008

I had trouble putting this book down. It's a cinematic tour-de-force based around a technology that hasn't been milked to death in either movies OR books. I give Nano-plasm two thumbs up/five stars/90%.

Nano-plasm is a rollicking tale of nano-technology gone *seriously* awry, and the colliding interests of big business, craven insurance companies, and the laughably forgotten Public Welfare, with a heap of mad scientists, and a dose of lust, ambition, and the profit motive run amok. Nano-tech, the framework for the book, is explained in some detail, but mostly just enough to completely creep you out.

I suspect if Michel Crichton had lived, he eventually would have eventually gotten around to writing about nano-technology. He didn't; as it turns out, Stephen Clarke-Willson beat him to it.

Did I mention that the novel is set on an island? Islands often seem to harbor mad scientists and mad science in other works of fiction like The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells or Crichton's Jurassic Park books. Thinking of those books and the movies made from them, and their island locales, I have to conclude this book is made for the movies. The scenes at the facility on the island would be CGI sensations. If anyone in Hollywood is reading this...option this novel!

I don't know whether what he writes about nano-machines is real or pure confection. I suppose I could look it up, but come on. . .it's a novel; a work of fiction. And in a work of fiction, all things are permitted--at least in my world. It's all true, whether it happened or not.

Stephen Clarke-Willson's book is such a compelling page turner that you don't really care about the verisimilitude of the nano machines (but they indeed seem verisimilitudinous). It's a good story! Stick this book on your Kindle for a great read! Or if you haven't made the leap to Kindle, buy the old-fashioned paper version.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining, action packed sci-fi thriller, October 27, 2010
This review is from: Nano-Plasm: A Novel (Paperback)
A rollicking debut from Stephen Clarke-Willson. The story is well researched and full of tantalizing ideas, with action scenes that beg for a big screen treatment. Very much looking forward to future works from this author.

Read this one on a couple short flights while away on a business trip. It's a great, easy read with lots of geeky fun :) Stephen explores some entertaining and interesting ideas about a nano-tech future. Who wouldn't want to play with some of the gadgets these fictional characters have at their disposal? Fun read!

5.0 out of 5 stars An "E ticket" Ride, March 8, 2010

This review is from: Nano-Plasm: A Novel (Paperback)
I like to describe this book as Michael Crichton's "Airframe" meets "The Terminator". The book is a fun and fascinating look at the potential of Nano-Tec (both the good and the evil). While it is a fairly quick read, the story is very entertaining and I believe it would make a great movie. It is just a bit politically preachy at times, but if you love a techno-thriller... you will enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ayn Rand meets Michael Crichton, October 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nano-Plasm: A Novel (Paperback)
Nano-Plasm is an Ayn Rand meets Michael Crighton (nano) techno-thriller. And in contrast to Ian Fleming novels, the hero is not a gun-toting government secret agent, but an internet browser wielding insurance agent. And in the spirit of Ayn Rand, the solution to all our problems is not the government, but private insurance.

The Dr. Clarke-Willson fills the book with examples of the potential of nano technology in general and nano robots in particular. 3D mirrors, super comfortable massage chairs, and personal flight that makes that personal rocket guy look downright primitive.

The book is a great combination of plot and story to interest the reader, technical speculation to entertain, and political philosophy to educate. In fact, the book has been used in emerging research to evaluate personalities; it seems there is a direct correlation between enjoying the book and intelligence and creativity. Being intelligent and creative, I enjoyed Nano-Plasm. But only you can decide if it's your kind of book.
