4.0 out of 5 stars Great tunes but mislabeled. January 22, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
"Call You Mom" is one the the best TMBG tracks ever, and this is coming from a fan from the first album. Funny/weird lyrics combined with a great tune make this a fantastic song. 5+ stars.

"Lost My Mind" is another keeper and and a good appetizer for the full album. 4 stars.

"Black Ops" has fantastic lyrics and one should pay close attention to them. The song also takes an unexpected musical turn that is fun. 4 stars.

It looks like "Nanobots" is going to be a top-notch release; it's nice to have a few songs to chew on while I wait.

One issue, and it is a pretty big one: Amazon has "Call You Mom" and "Black Ops" reversed. They are labeled wrong both in the previews and the actual downloads.

EDIT: Amazon has fixed this issue.

This really should be fixed as TMBG will want "Call You Mom" to be the first track heard by someone checking this out.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting preview of the upcoming Nanobots album January 22, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
Even with only six weeks to go until the release of "Nanobots", it's nice to have the wait shortened a little thanks to this EP.

"Call You Mom" is a clever, high-energy track straight from the mind of John Linnell featuring a catchy melody and excellent horn section, and it's sure to stick in the band's live repertoire for the foreseeable future. "Lost My Mind" is another classic Linnell tune with a nice hook, and some great harmonies from John Flansburgh toward the end - it's always great to hear the Johns singing harmony parts together.

Track 3, "Black Ops", really surprised me. John Flansburgh calls it "a very progressive track" and that's a spot-on description of the song, which is sure to end up being one of the most interesting arrangements on the final "Nanobots" album. A genuinely unique song that I consider to be the highlight of the EP.

Five stars for great new music from TMBG. Can't wait to hear more from the Johns when the full album drops in March!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Black Ops Found My Lost Mind January 31, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I think that this EP is a great precursor to TMBG's upcoming album, Nanobots. I'd already heard the song "Call Me Mom" when this was released and had come to appreciate it a great deal. I know the biggest complaint about the EP is the song "Black Ops" which I, on first listen, wasn't too sure about. After have listened to it a couple more times and listening closer to the lyrics, I realized that it is actually a rather humorous song. Out of all the songs on this EP, however, I'd have to say that John Linnell's "Lost My Mind" is my favorite off of this EP. Overall, this is a great preview of Nanobots and I am excited to see what else is coming when the full album is released.
