Product Description

Size: 1200 Lumens/75 Watt equivalent | Style: Single/Black

Product Description

The World's Most Energy Efficient Light Bulb. Using only 10 watts of electricity, the Nanoleaf bulb generates over 1200 lumens, equivalent to a 75W incandescent lightbulb. There are plenty of 20-60W Equivalent LED light bulbs in the market today, but the selection for 75-100W equivalents is still quite rare. To most light bulb manufacturers high efficiency and cost effective light bulb production is still uncharted territory. The Nanoleaf takes energy efficient lighting to a whole new level by offering a lightbulb far more efficient than any existing LED bulb. It is a true breakthrough for LED Lighting technology.

A Look Inside Nanoleaf
  • Using True Omni-directional Light Output creates a perfect 360 degree lighting solution for lamps or fixtures requiring a standard Edison base.
  • NanoLeaf utilizes a customized over-temperature safety feature to ensure the bulb never overheats, and is safe to use within fully enclosed light fixtures.
  • Created with the environment in mind, Nanoleaf can help you reduce your energy consumption and every Nanoleaf is mercury and lead free.

Find a better efficient bulb

Instant-On Capabilities

Unlike Compact Fluorescent lights, the NanoLeaf bulb achieves full brightness the instant it is turned on. Additionally, the Nanoleaf performance is not affected by frequently turning on and off. Each nanoleaf bulb has an expected life of about 30,000 hours.

Omnidirectional Lighting

Unlike other LED light bulbs, the NanoLeaf bulb directs light in all directions. This allows for light to be distributed evenly, comparable to traditional light bulbs.

The Coolest Light Bulb

The Nanoleaf's energy efficient design allows for very little energy lost due to heat. The Nanoleaf is safe to the touch, even after extended periods of use.

Achieve energy management

Reducing energy consumption

Using Nanoleaf light bulbs, users can dramatically reduce their energy consumption. By many measures, consistent usage, over the lifetime of the Nanoleaf bulb, energy savings can equal or exceed the purchase cost of the Nanoleaf.

With the Nanoleaf bulb, users do not have to trade poor lighting quality or long warm up times for energy efficiency. Instead the Nanoleaf bulb delivers the highest levels of performance and consistency at the lowest level of power consumption, and is immediately available to users at the flick of a switch.

I supported the kickstarter program for this bulb. It was great to see these guys go throught the design and manufacture process. they even had to go through a pretty dramatic upset during the process where so many of the lights were failing. They did the hard work, fixed it, and released the bulb.

I got mine, and it worked great. Its very bright.

However, the color is not good. Its fine for work areas, anywhere you have a flourescent. This bulb would be better. However, its not the warm color of modern LED bulbs that are called "soft white" and it doesnt go well in a living room or anywhere you are looking for a warm light. I put it in a closet.

I purchased this bulb from Amazon at the end of April as: Nanoleaf 1200WL120-4PK 360 LED 10W 1200 Lumen Light Bulb with Leaf, White, 4-Pack. I purchased two 4 packs placing 7 bulbs into enclosed fixtures. By mid-July one of the bulbs failed. I like the concept and am pleased with the way that they operate but with this failure rate I can't recommend them.

March 2015 update: I now have a collection of 7 failed bulbs. Nanoleaf support has run hot and cold. After contacting me about my first failed bulb they asked me to wait for a replacement as they were working on a second generation. The replacement bulb finally arrived but in the mean time more bulbs failed. They are shipping replacements to me via Singapore Post, which puts the snail back in snail mail. As far as I can tell the most recent shipment was to have been arranged for over 8 weeks ago and has yet to arrive.

Another replacement note, it seems that you now have a choice of color temperatures for the bulbs. The most recent replacement I received did not match the color temperature of the bulb it replaced.

It is amazing how much light, lumens, it puts out with only 12 watts of power required. Ask me in ten years how long it lasted. To take full advantage of the light a shade should be translucent as the bulb sends light in every direction. A reflective shade would be best if you want the light directed in one direction.

Have multiple other variants of LED bulbs, including others with the 100w equivalent and none come the slight bit closest to this bulb and it brightness. This thing as my wife calls it is the "sun" when we turn it on. Not only is the thing a "clean, pure" white but, it is not putting off any heat when in use. I have a light stand with 3 light bulbs in it, with this in one and 2 other LED bulbs one a 75W equivalent and the other a 100W equivalent and they do not even come close to the purity and brightness of this bulb.

I ordered one bulb from Amazon and when I tried it, it was defective and did not work.
I ordered a replacement a few week later and it has been working fine.

Since this bulb is 3500 Kelvin, the color is between warm and cool. It is more white than a warm white or soft white bulb, which is the typical color of an incandescent and many compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL). I have it installed in a fixture grouped with warm white CFL's. The light output is very bright. It is within an open glass shade and there is plenty of light output. Some people would find the brightness too intense.

What is interesting is that the light output is fairly spherical, since there are groups of (3) leds facing about a dozen different directions. This allows the light to emit from the bulb without using a glass envelope to assist in the dispersion. Depending on the light fixture this lamp is installed within, the light output may be blocked on some sides.

I was very interested in the actual light output. A whole separate discussion can occur about measuring the light output and how the 1800 lumens is determined. What I wanted to know was how close it compared to a similar rated CFL in normal day to day use.

I measured the foot-candles of the Nanoleaf compared to the CFL. The Nanoleaf is rated at 12 watts of input power and the CFL is rated at 13 watts of input power. The footcandles emitted from the Nanoleaf were about 150% more than the CFL, based on varied distances from the bulbs. (Please note that this was a simple test, not using a scientific method). The Nanoleaf is about the brightest LED I have found while keeping a typical lamp shape and not going crazy with the quantity of the LED's used.

UPDATE 11/21/14: Just wanted to let perspective customers know that the replacement bulb that Nanoleaf provided it still glowing strong 5 months later. I have edited my original review below so that it does not sound as harsh because I want to believe that perhaps the mfr _does_ want to build a quality product and that they want to continue to pursue this technology and make it successful.

UPDATE 6/27/14: I contacted the mfr and they replaced the unit under their 1-yr warranty. I did not have to return the dead unit. They gave me the impression that if this bulb fails too, they will replace it as well. We'll see. I upgraded my rating to 3-stars because of the easy replacement process.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: These bulbs come with a 1-year warranty, so don't cringe at shelling out the $$ for these bulbs. Got mine for my birthday in April. By mid-May, barely over 30 days, it no longer worked. I put this LED bulb in my table lamp, which is on approximately 4-5 hours nightly. I put the CFL bulb it replaced back in the lamp, and it has lasted approximately 10 months so far.

I don't mind paying the premium price, but I want to get what I pay for. For example, I've purchased dozens of CFL bulbs that last no more than 60-90 days, not the 5-7 years they advertise, but then again, I only paid a couple of bucks or so for the bulb. I've gotten into the habit of writing the date on the bulb when I install it so that I know how long it lasts. If I come across a short-life bulb, I make a note not to buy that type again.
