4.0 out of 5 stars An Enjoyable Read.
First of all, don't be misled by the cover art. Don't *ever* be misled by cover art! Haven't we all learned this lesson? Although intriguing, it does not mean this is a P/7 story, as some avid P/Ters were certain of when this book first appeared. While the story's key players happen to be Paris and Seven, their plotlines go in different directions.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good Voyager book
This book was a good book. But it wasn't without its weaknesses.
First, I must say that I was glad to finally get another Voyager book! Despite being 'hated' by many Star Trek fans, Voyager still has a big fan base.
Anyway, one minor problem with this book was that it followed the TV series' final episode. Therefore, this book couldn't allow for any more...

In fact, this story, set after the Paris/Torres nuptials but before Miral, has enough P/T moments in it to qualify as naughty fanfic, if lines like "And that was all either of them said for quite some time." or "Then she kissed him. Hard." were expanded a paragraph or two. As an avid P/Ter myself, I was able to fill in those particular blanks very nicely, thank you. And speaking of Miral, I don't think this story is set too much before her. Torres is nauseous enough times to make me suspicious, and one time she actually pukes, so, hey, you do the math.

Obviously, a story about people who use nanotechnology almost exclusively would eventually involve Seven rather intimately, but the Paris subplot leaks dangerously into the gratuitous plot device, involving as it does "accidental" kidnapping and amnesia in Our Favorite Pilot. I'll let you figure out what happens when he's returned to the ship without his memory. (These people, by the way, named the Chiar, were described as looking something like St. Bernard dogs, but I kept calling them the Chair and imagining my dining room. Funny what a one-letter switch will do to a word, huh?)

Janeway, unfortunately, does little in this book but stomp from the bridge to her ready room and figure *everything* out in the last dozen pages or so. Fortunately, we've seen this enough times in Trek, so the "too much, too fast," ending is no surprise.

And you can see, after all this, I still gave the book four stars. That's because: a) I love Star Trek Voyager, and b) I thought it was an enjoyable read, if not a memorable one. Despite the numerous typos and odd repeated use of the same word in the same sentence (i.e., "Seven shut the tricorder and headed for the mouth of the alley, her mouth set in a grim line."), there were enough clever moments to make this book worthwhile.

One final note of caution: If you're not a fan of C/7, then you'd better watch your step with this one. It is most certainly pointing in that direction. But at least we're given a clue about how C/7 got its start, something distinctly missing from the show. And that clue was believeable and well-written, IMNSHO.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best "Voyager" novels so far., November 16, 2002

I'm entitled to that opinion because I've read them all.

This book has an interesting and solid science fiction plot, and it nails the characters dead on. My only complaint (which I've finally convinced myself is not a reason to give it 4 stars instead of 5) is "not enough Janeway."

I particularly enjoyed having someone give me a credible back story for the Chakotay/Seven of Nine romance that appeared so abruptly in "Endgame." Well done! I do hope this author will be writing more "Voyager" books!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good Voyager story, November 10, 2002

If you are a Voyager fan, you will most likely enjoy this book. It will especially appeal to fans of the B'Elanna Torres and Tom Paris relationship. It also gives a bit of a background to the Chakotay and Seven relationship portrayed in the series finale, to help "fill in the blanks" of their romance. The author has come up with an "alien of the week" that is exciting to read about. If you are not a Voyager fan, it will be slightly less interesting, as the author seems to assume that you are already somewhat familiar with the characters and plot of the series. In all, as a fan of the series, I liked it quite a bit, and recommend it to others who are also fans, and to non-fans who are willing to ignore references to the series that they are unfamiliar with.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic addition to any Voyager's bookshelf!!, March 6, 2003

Ever since I started watching Voyager about halfway through the series, I fell in love with it majorly. I like it better than any other Star Trek series, for the characters, the adventures, the races, technology, creatures, hard descions and starship battles. Voygaer represents all that can happen with the emotional part of life and all that can happen with the discovering part of life. When I heard of this new Voyager novel, I knew I had to get it.

I would say that it's about time that they had a novel where the two main characters whom are captured, experimented upon, tortured, helped by the crew, and finally becoming the rescuers themselves are Tom Paris and Seven of Nine. Paris and Seven are my two top favorite characters of the Voyager cast and I have been waiting for an adventure when they were the main hero and heronie of the story. In this adventure Paris is the one who goes through more experimenting on and biological tamopering than Seven, who only has some of her nanoprobes extracted. Paris has his entire memory erased, which later puts a huge strain on all of his friends and most of all, his wife, B'Elanna Torres, and then he is stripped of his uniform and human clothing and outfitted with his own suit of Chiar nanites. After that, he is sold as a slave and forced to work around the clock under the hand of an abusive master. Seven is off of Voyager more than Paris, where she is imprisoned and betrayed by both conflicting sides of the Chiar society. And as in may cases, there is someone who wants the technology from her body to enhance their own. It's at this point when Seven has some of her nanoprobes extracted. Over confidence of the Chiar scientist proves to be deadly, and in the end, only Paris and Seven can save the Chiar homeworld.

In this story, Seven of Nine learns more of her human side with the help of Commander Chakotay and comes closer to regaining her individuallity. Tom Paris gives us all an insight on why he loves B'Elanna Torres and of how he relearns his love is really touching.

If you're a Voyager fan and don't have this book, GET IT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Nanotech War is an awesome read!, November 28, 2002

Anyone who is thinking about buying this book - DO IT! You will not be disappointed. This book has many references to the Chakotay/Seven relationship that we all saw at the end of the series. The relationship of B'Elanna Torres and Tom Paris is another focal point of this story, as B'Elanna tries to overcome the kidnapping of her new husband by a group of aliens, who appear to be very nice.

Steve Piziks is a wonderful author, and the one question that comes to mind: Why haven't we heard of him before?

I thoroughly enjoyed Star Trek Voyager Nanothech War! The suspense and deep emotion of this book kept me coming back for more. The characters are very likeable, and I also think that the book was very well written. I won't ruin it for you by telling you exactly what happens, but I think it's safe to say that the emotional developement of Seven of Nine was very well played out in this book. I rate it five stars. Read it! Nanotech Rocks!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Science Fiction, August 15, 2003

The starship Voyager, in need of repairs after an ion storm, arrives at the planet Chiar, which has just aquired warp drive technology. The Chiar use nanotechnology in every aspect of their lives, it is ubiquitous there, and they seem peaceful enough. They are willing to help the Voyager crew with repairs, in exchange for minor software items, but it is soon learned that the Chair are in the midst of global strife, and several factions want the Borg nanotechnology that Seven incorporates in her body, to supplement their own nanotechnology and aid them in their war effort. The characters of Seven of Nine, Tom Paris, B'Elanna, and Chakotay are highlighted with good character development inside a superb storyline.

I would classify this as a light summer read, great for Star Trek fans and sci-fi readers in general. The story has an interesting twist near the end as well.

This review is from: The Nanotech War (Star Trek Voyager) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of the best Voyager books out there. It's exciting and has a lot of character insight. Finally, we get a book set after Tom Paris and B'Elanna Torres get married. The book goes in depth about their thoughts and feelings about each other. It also gives background information that answers a lot of questions. Like where did the relationship between Chakotay and Seven of Nine come from. I would recommend this book to any Voyager fan.

This review is from: The Nanotech War (Star Trek Voyager) (Mass Market Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this voyager book. I think Voyager is the best of the star trek shows because of the relationship between the characters. It was always enjoyable to watch a show where the crewmembers showed such caring and respect for each other. This book was another great visit with the people I have grown to like so much. I didn't know Chacotay was 50 years old, but even if he is, I really liked the holodeck scenes - I have read all of the voyager books and look forward to more.

Therefore, this book couldn't allow for any more attempts at getting Voyager home (since we know the outcome).
But, the story itself was very interesting. It had a couple of good plot twists throughout. I do think 7 of 9 is used a little too much. Plus, Harry Kim fans will be disappointed to know that he has very limited dialogue in this book. It does refer to the future relationship of Chakotay and Seven.
Good book for Voyager fans. For casual Voyager fans, you may want to read other Trek books first.
