5.0 out of 5 stars kids love it
Ordered the Nanoscope for my kids that were already playing Nanovor online. They are now playing offline against some neighborhood kids. 3.0 out of 5 stars A fun toy...if you get one that works!
Our son saved up for this for quite a while (he paid thirty, despite it being eleven and change as of this writing!) and was thrilled to finally receive it. He loaded it up with his nanovor from the online battle game (which he had already been playing for a while) and invited a friend over to battle nanoscope to nanoscope. When I first saw the Nanoscope at Target, I thought "Another virtual pet game?". Oh no, not quite. This is what Pokemon should of been, in its own hand held gaming device. Nanovor is a new kind of battling pet game. You use Nanocash to purchase online booster packs, several different kinds of which you can choose from in fact to build your "swarm". I'm not going to get too detailed here, but you can evolve them and collect rare Nanovor. Basically you battle with them in an online game. You install it it the included DVD to your PC, make a free online account, and go from there.

The Nanoscope is for offline play and includes several mini-games and a tutorial. You can download your swarm to your Nanoscope for offline battles as well. It can connect via USB (cord included) to your PC so you may transfer your Nanovor back and forth, and including the ever important "Jolts" (which are earned via mini-games) to maximizing stats on your Nanovor. It's an incredibly detailed system for such a small screen, an LCD with 1000's of animations.

You will need Nanocash. There is a code card that comes with the 'Scope, you redeem it online. There is also limited edition packs that include figures and can be purchased in stores that include Nanocash; there are also cash cards but you don't have to buy them in stores. How much you will need depends on your playtime and willingness to put in the money and effort to build swarms.

Nanovor is a very addictive game. I know people in their 40's playing it, so it's not just for kids. Anyone who has ever gotten into the MTG card game or anything similar should find it to their liking. There is a lot more strategy than just pressing a few buttons.

Do yourself a favor and look it up. It may not be for MAC users, but giving Smith & Tinker the benefit of the doubt for a very good game gives them an overhead, as they may release it in the future. Updates are made pretty often to the software. The only complaint I have is it took so long to install, but well worth the wait. Any customer service or questions I have had have been answered promptly.

Battery life and the durability of it is pretty dang good for such a great system. It comes with it's own case, which I am quite impressed with. I find myself playing it more often than my DS, though I do wish the screen was a little bigger.

Give it a whirl, you or your kids won't be disappointed!!

I bought this for my 10 year old son for Christmas, and after playing it for 2 hours, it would not turn on anymore. We tried everything the online help suggested, new batteries, reset etc but it still would not turn on. I left a message for their customer care department and i received a call back the same day. The are sending out a new nanoscope no questions asked. I thought i was going to have to return it to amazon, but was pleasantly surprised. My son loved this and is anxiously waiting for the new one to arrive. Its nice to see a company stand behind their products!!

I love this toy there is no problem with that, but Smith and Tinker, the people who made it discontinued the website, so you only get 3 nanovor on the nanscope. So please do not waste your money buying a toy you cant update to get new creatures.

After several attempts, my son's screen went blank and appeared to be off despite toggling the on/off switch. His friend said that the same thing happened with his "first" nanoscope (he was on his second). We tried new batteries, the "reset" button, as well as a few other tips we had read about on the internet. After a few days of trying various fixes, and at the prodding of the friend's mother who experienced the same thing, I contacted Smith & Tinker (support at nanovor dot com) and to their credit, they promptly sent us a replacement which still works fine after two months and we did not need to return the old one to them. It seems like the company is still trying to work out a few kinks in the system, so if you happen to get a "good" one, it will be a lot of fun for you (or your child). However, you should be prepared for the very real possibility that the one you receive may be a "dud" and you just might have a pretty disappointed child on your hands!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nanover, October 3, 2011

My son wanted to buy this because a friend had one and loved it. It is a pretty cool toy and for the reduced price a good value, especially if you can combine with something else for free shipping. However, the disc that came with it had a pretty significant scratch in it and could not be downloaded. After a bit of frustration by son figured out how to download from a website. So, for the discounted price it is a good deal.

I purchased a Nanoscope for my son for Christmas 2009.
He already had an online account so this was the next step. Christmas morning
and he's happy with his new toy. Made me sync it immediately out of the box.
It worked fine for about 2 hours and the we get an "oops error" message.
Straight to the customer help site and follow the instructions to correct the error . No luck ! I tried it several times. My son is almost in tears.
I messaged Smith and Tinker and they replied the next day apologizing and sent me a replacement shipping included. They wanted the defective back and included a package with the shipping already paid for me to send it in. The replacement works just great and my son is happy. They even gave me extra nanocash and 2 storm spinners.Even though i was put put on Christmas day their dedication to customer service has redeemed this company in my eyes.
One thing to note though this unit eats regular batteries. Use Lithium instead.

At first my son didn't care for this game and when he really understood it, he rates it as one of his favorite toy (among 100 or so other favorites lol). I did the signing up for him and the rest he did himself. He loves chatting with fellow gamers and scoring in the battles. There is a hand held game (with pretty good graphics) that you download battles and can play anywhere. Overall, this game is fun and it teaches using strategy when battling the monsters.

I did buy this toy in 2009 and it was played with
Recently 2010 it cannot be used
I contacted the company to find out they have closed the servers
They advised me that if I had purchased it recently to take it back
They said they had advised retailers of the closure of servers
So if you have one - you cannot connect to any server for downloads
Or play

Had some problems freezing up when it was played with
They were helpful in fixing them but still not durable
