Biography

There's no tomorrow / Set a place at the table

If every story is a story about love, what of suffering, surrender, and redemption? Life says they're in there too. Along with traffic jams and dishes, jobs and sunsets and spilling all the red wine on the floor. All of it.

Naomi, the fourth record from Northwestern mystics The Cave Singers, is a totem to these things: the ... Read more in Amazon's The Cave Singers Store

Editorial Reviews

On Naomi, The Cave Singers have charted new territory for the band, both musically and spiritually, while remaining true to their distinctive brand of brushfired folk. After some time in the dark wealth of the unknown, they have returned to the light with a revitalized purpose.

I like the Cave Singers a lot. I thought their last two albums were superb. The first album is pretty good, too. For full disclosure, I've had this album a month to listen to (pre-orders got a month early download). So... why only three stars? For starters, they added a full time bass player which certainly adds more complexity to their songs. But that's a bad thing. The Cave Singers were wonderful because of their creative use of non-standard instruments, their simple arrangements, and unique song writing.

Some of the songs on the album are exactly what you'd expect from the Cave Singers - psychedelic folk. The others are average alternative songs with that "full band" feel that the Cave Singers should avoid. I think if you are new to them, you'll probably be less than impressed. There is far less unique instrumentation with a lot of just the standard guitar, bass, drums lineup in half the songs.

I won't address each song individually, but I gave the album as a whole three stars. If you're interested in the Cave Singers start with Welcome Joy. I think they are still very good at what they do, but just not sold on them going the generic band route. I wish they'd stay unique.

Just found these guys. They have a great sound. If you like Deer Tick, Kings of Leon, Bob Dylan, Heartless Bastards...you will like these guys. A little bit folk and a little bit rock. They put the two together nicely. After listening to this album I bought "No Witch" and it's just as good. I plan on getting their first two very soon.

Yes the music does have more of a bass line than the previous album that i had purchased but I think that the songs are still great. I have listened to this album over and over after purchasing.
