Book Description

January 2, 2007
Naomi Judd has been called "The Face of the Boomer Generation." At 78 million strong, boomers have become America's largest demographic. In "Naomi's Guide to Aging Gratefully," she debunks society's harmful myths about aging and finds more meaningful ways we can define ourselves so we can enjoy (rather than dread) getting older.

Freedom is the focus, and there's no better time than now to free yourself from untrue and outdated ideas about your own potential. Naomi is full of fresh ideas to help readers look at their futures in a whole new way. The aging process, as Naomi shows, is an opportunity for new experiences, original routines, and more contentment than ever before.

Naomi offers tips on finding simplicity, streamlining possessions, disengaging from "energy vampires," and discovering the most effective ways to support your life force and boost your energy. Each chapter includes vital new health information and proactive lifestyle suggestions for your body, mind, and spirit. Naomi has a solution-oriented approach to everything from beauty tips to getting in sync hormonally with bioidentical HRT. She also offers wisdom on dealing with grief as well as enlightening ideas on how to recognize and enjoy your own uniqueness no matter how old you are.

Packed with personal anecdotes, commentary from celebrity friends and data from renowned doctors, and plenty of Naomi's own special brand of lemonade-out-of-lemons wit and wisdom, "Naomi's Guide to Aging Gratefully" encourages readers to believe that it's never too early or too late to enter an important new chapter in their lives and embrace opportunities to become their happiest ever.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Country music star Judd (Naomi's Breakthrough Guide) offers a mix of salty advice and inspirational suggestions to baby boomers as they age. Based on her own experience, interviews with contemporaries and reliable medical tips, Judd provides a sprightly and engaging perspective on the goal of healthily sustaining oneself physically and emotionally. Judd debunks the youth-obsessed media, which relentlessly stereotype and ridicule seniors. The author strongly believes in honing a positive attitude that includes practicing five daily acts of kindness, such as extending oneself to neighbors. Judd also affirms the importance of building a strong network of friends and family as well as relationships that may include a long-term love and satisfying sexual involvement. Judd's strong faith leads her to offer evidence for the value of spirituality as one ages, and she devotes a chapter to the often touchy subject of getting along with children and grandchildren. Nicely juxtaposed with her intellectual and psychological musings are the author's down-to-earth recommendations on nutrition, exercise and the role of both traditional and complementary medicine. Uplifting and informative, this should be popular with both fans and middle-aged readers looking for advice on how to move gracefully, and gratefully, into middle and old age. Photos not seen by PW. 3.0 out of 5 stars A Lesson We Need to Learn, December 9, 2007
This review is from: Naomi's Guide to Aging Gratefully: Facts, Myths, and Good News for Boomers (Hardcover)
What I like best about this book is Naomi's advice for combating age-related stereotypes in our youth-obsessed culture. She says that practicing gratitude is important, that everyday acts of generosity can add years to your life. She also addresses the challenges facing boomers, from caring for parents to nurturing friendships and romantic love, and sprinkles her advice with funny anecdotes in keeping with her belief that laughter is a life enhancer. While there are physical losses that come with age, there are far more benefits--benefits of the heart and spirit that only come with experience and wisdom.
