5.0 out of 5 stars Naomi's Room
This is the most amazing book I've ever read. I picked it up purely by chance - I had never heard of it or the author but I am so glad I did. I'd recommend people who like a good scare to definately get this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars I feel bad but....
I didn't really find this book very scary. I feel like I should have because the other reviews were all so good. I expected a lot more from this book. I love good scary psychological ghost stories, but this one just plain bored me. It did have a couple of "ooh" moments, but nothing that made me lose sleep or sleep with the lights on. I gave it three stars because the...

5.0 out of 5 stars The scariest book you'll ever read., November 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Naomi's Room (Paperback)
This is truly one of the creepiest, most frightening books you'll ever run across. Aycliffe is an excellent writer. I read a lot, and this is one of the best I've run across. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

Double lock the doors and windows, and keep several lights burning all night long. Jonathan Aycliffe (aka Daniel Easterman) has written the most frightening book you'll probably ever read. Without a doubt a classic. It's brief, precise, and moves like a runaway freight train to its climax. Awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars the scariest book I've ever read., July 7, 2000
This review is from: Naomi's Room (Paperback)
deceptively simple but with a twist that will send you through the roof. Starting out as a simple, yet frightening ghost story - the author adds a maddening twist that you just can't see coming -- but when it does -- you'll bolt up and say "damn!" -- from that point -- it just gets more and more intense.

without a doubt -- the scariest, most twisted book I've ever read --- needless to say -- I LOVED IT.

I love good scary psychological ghost stories, but this one just plain bored me. It did have a couple of "ooh" moments, but nothing that made me lose sleep or sleep with the lights on. I gave it three stars because the story line was good and I do agree it would probably make a good movie, but I just found it extremely slow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Terrifying!, October 24, 2010
This review is from: Naomi's Room (Paperback)
I'm just going to come right out and say it. This book scared the living crap out of me! I really didn't think it was going to be that scary or affect me as much as it did. I started reading Naomi's Room yesterday night around 8pm. I put it down at 9:30pm after reading 60 pages because I was just too terrified to continue in the dark. This is truly horror at its absolute best.

My favorite type of horror stories are not those gross out gory ones that try to outdo a crapload of other novels to see which one is the grossest, but rather the ones with the simplistic plot of a haunted house. There's nothing scarier for me than the thought of an old, creepy haunted house. If you add in an atmospheric and gloomy premise as well as a story that's fast paced as all get out, then you pretty much have a book that's a total win with me. Naomi's Room did all of this and more. It started out with the creepy and didn't let up until the brief end. Things went bump in the night most of the time and the times that things weren't going bump in the night, they were just shocking the hell out of you. I didn't see anything that happened in this book coming! Just one shock after another until I literally had to pick my jaw up off the ground.

So, if you're in the mood for a creepy, scary, Halloween read, look no further than Naomi's Room. One thing though: Not for the faint of heart at all. There is some gore in here even though there isn't much graphic detail in it, but it is bizarre, shocking, and absolutely terrifying. If you're one of those people who's not really into horror but want to get a brief taste of it to see if you can continue, DON'T read Naomi's Room. Instead read another creepy read that is highly recommended (not just by me, but countless others) called Come Closer. But if you already have a few horror books under your belt and absolutely know with every fiber of your being that it's the genre for you, pick up Naomi's Room and scare yourself silly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book!, February 14, 2008
This review is from: Naomi's Room (Paperback)
This book starts and finishes with a bang. This is truly the most terrifying book I have ever read. It is not that long and I finished it in a day. Every time I had a free moment I would run back to the book to read more. It's not like other books where it takes long to get to the scares and they are few and far between but this story is just different . Trust me. If you can find a copy , read it; but you might not be able to sleep for a few nights!

5.0 out of 5 stars terrifying, January 14, 2008
This review is from: Naomi's Room (Paperback)
Easily the most frightening book I've ever read. Unlike King or Straub, Aycliffe gives you no straw of humanity to clutch at. At first, you think he does. Nice family moves into a house with strange noises ... in the attic. Daughter has mysterious "playmates." Photos show things that can't possibly be there. You've seen these elements before and think you know where you're headed. You don't. Aycliff's style is matter of fact, cool and dry, which adds to the chill. You wait for the redeeming act. It never comes. Just more layers of horror until it wraps up with an ending that echoes through your brain.
