One of the many great films(and directors)all too often ignored by academia(Gance, Carne, Laurel and Hardy movies) and nearly impossible to find on any format aside from VHS. Coppola evidently holds the US distribution rights and won't release the film due to an issue with the original score conflicting with a second score his dad wrote. When people in power/in charge spend their energy building monuments to themselves, everyone suffers. Anyway, Napoleon is pure cinema, and if you are actually reading this review its pointless for me to point out the countless attributes from my point of view. As life, it will speak to everyone differently and ultimately, interpretation is more about the analyst than that what is analyzed. I just want to let you know that a region free version is occasionally available on Ebay. Im not sure if it would ever be possible to present it in the original triptych form again, but even with 1/3 of the image in front of you its hypnotic. Also- Gance's Beethoven, usually abvaiable from Amazon, towers above Immortal Beloved IMHO.

This low budget South Korean-made dvd spoils Gance's masterpiece with its poor picture quality and shabby video transfer. No wonder it's so cheap. Furthermore, the first few minutes of Carmine Coppola's music soundtrack is cutoff from the DVD.
