As a history major specializing in France, Napoleon was bound to be a figure that I would encounter. This book is an interesting collection of information. The first part of the book is a brief history of Napoleon and his actions, while the second part consists of various letters and documents. Most documents have a bit of a preface to help the reader place the document in regards to the historical time period it is happening. My class read this book together and it was a hit. I recommend this to people interested in Napoleon or professors looking for a short, but informative reading assignment.

Combination of narrative overview and actual documents provides a first-hand glimpse to the sentiments of the time; its' most charismatic leader; his effect over others and their opinion of him. It can serve as the take-off point for more study and investigation; So it serves both those who wish a more in depth look as well as those who are preparing to delve into the subject.
