From the Manufacturer

Napoleon: Total War is the new chapter in the critically acclaimed Total War series and opens up a new narrative layer to the genre-defining franchise. From the early Italian campaign to the battle of Waterloo, Napoleon covers two decades of relentless battles, a backdrop of a world in flames against which the story of an extraordinary military career unfolds.

Whether you play as the legendary general or against, the outcome of war can never be guaranteed. The course of history relies on your ability to lead your troops through the most intense battles as never seen before in a Total War game.

The Imperial Guard Pack features 6 brand new units and contains an alternative version of the Battle of Waterloo, fought from the British perspective.

The Battle of Waterloo (18 June, 1815) Alternative version
Napoleon had the feeling he had won the war as he advanced towards the Anglo-Dutch army at Waterloo. The Prussians were retreating, pursued by a French corps, and only Wellington remained. French armies would be victorious once again, and the Empire would be reborn in fire. But the history book on the shelf would not be repeating itself... This alternative version includes:

  • Britain as the playable faction.
  • Two of the new units from the Imperial Guard Pack are included in the battle
  • The French have more troops meaning that the battle is balanced differently.

To get your free Imperial Guard Pack, you need to be connected to the internet. Launch the STEAM client and log in with the account details you used to install Napoleon: Total War. You will automatically download the Imperial Guard Pack! You can check the download progress by clicking on the 'My Games' tab and look at the 'Status' column.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating March 17, 2012

Napoleon: Total War is the most modern of the strategy games in the Sega series, and my very favorite. This review speaks to many features unmentioned by other reviewers, which may arise because I am 65 years old and the father of two young boys.
For me, the basic reason to think about war is its application in politics -- as a self-standing activity, it sucks. The attraction of NTW (for short) is its rather substantial historical content, its sophisticated diplomatic play, and its wonderful, immensely interconnected, lovingly constructed campaigns.
The same concern for detail which brought the makers of this game to the British National Archives for ship plans for the construction of the ships also brings to the player the names of the leading scientists and intellectuals of the Napoleonic era as the professors to stock his (or her) universities and research useful new technologies for his nation-state.
I am blown away, figuratively, by the loving details of the graphics of the game -- some soldiers are literally blown over by cannon shot, but only blown over, and they then individually get up and rejoin their platoons as they march forward, for just one example. But the conceptual grasp that allows you to trade with nations that are in large measure hostile to you, so that you both profit, that demands that you ask permission from your own allies to gain military access to their territory -- and on and on -- is what makes me a committed fan of this strategy game, set in historical times.
For Prussia can be bought off, for a short while, as it was, historically, by ceding Hanover to it, and Austria will break any peace treaty with France at the first opportunity (I guess offering to marry the Austrian Emperor's daughter was omitted as a counterweight).

5.0 out of 5 stars Much cheaper than the steam December 21, 2011
Platform for Display:PC Download| Edition:Imperial Edition|Verified Purchase
After bought it, you don't need to download it from the amazon.
Just open the Steam client and choose the "Games" Menu and click "Activate a product on Steam...", then copy and paste the CD-Key. The game will be bidden to your account just like a normal one with DLC compatibility.
Now no need watching for the Steam Christmas Daily Dealers any more, hurray!

Very fun game, I has been play this total war series for years. Most of them are fun, but you have to have a good graphic device and powerful processor to feel the vivid high definition battlefield.

3.0 out of 5 stars Steam is still an issue. January 17, 2012
Platform for Display:PC Download| Edition:Imperial Edition|Verified Purchase
This is more a review of Steam than Napoleon. The game itself is visually very nice and looks to be a lot of fun at least the setpiece battles which is what I primarily got it for. Colourful, the graphics although quite nice are not the wow I was expecting, but for those of you who want have the experience of playing with model lead soldiers, the experience is begining to get there. My real problem is with Steam. I had avoided getting this version of Total War for some time, knowing full well all the issues. I had thought eventually they would eliminate it after the price dropped and people were no longer pirating it. After all why bother when there were so many issues. Finally after trying a another game with a ramped down Steam, (you only had to verify your game on startup) I thought how bad can it be and decided to download Napoleon digitally. Pretty bad as it turns out. The download process was somewhat annoying as described in previous reviews. But if you're not in a hurry and can step away from the computer for long bouts and do something else, it's not too bad, but honestly you should only have to download one copy and it should be the most up to date.
Almost immediately I started noticing funny problems with my computer. Strange mysterious crashes and reboots which would be frequent. I would return to my computer and find the computer had crashed and rebooted. At first I thought it was power outages or random flukes, then that maybe my drive was beginning to fail. Finally I remembered the reviews of Steam and I disabled the process which was running in the background regardless of whether Napoleon was running or not. Magically all the crashes went away. So there you have it. Avoid steam if you can.

1.0 out of 5 stars This game is boring May 21, 2013

Waste of money and I didnt enjoy the experience of playing it. It takes too long to do anything. I'd rather watch grass grow in my backyard then sit through this game again.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOpolean April 10, 2013
Platform for Display:PC Download| Edition:Imperial Edition|Verified Purchase
I call this game NOPolean Total War because it "NO play" It "NO Work" it "NO fun". This game is terrible, please bring back the style of play from Medievel II. I have an Alienware computer and this game is still ungodly clunky and slow. Have never had this problem with another game. Gonna try Shogun genre although the European history aspect of this would've been much more intriguing. Thanks total war! You took my dreams and s*** on 'Em.
