Book Description

March 25, 2008
Motherhood -- it's not for wimps.

Once the zigzagging hormones and endless, bleary-eyed exhaustion of the first year have worn off, you're left with the startling realization that your tiny, immobile bundle has become a rampaging toddler, complete with his or her very own, very forceful personality.

Just as Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay helped debunk decades of parenting myths to offer honest advice for the first year, Naptime Is the New Happy Hour is a voice of reason for every woman facing questions such as: Will refined sugar make my toddler's head explode? Is it wrong to have a cocktail at two in the afternoon? And what exactly is a Backyardigan?

With biting wit and boatloads of common sense, Stefanie Wilder-Taylor addresses all these concerns and more. Whether it's planning easy outings that are fun for both of you (fact: your child will find the local Target just as scintillating as the Guggenheim), dishing the dirt on preschool TV (those mothers who swear their kids don't watch television? Liars or psychos, every one), or perfecting the art of the play date, readers will find advice, anecdotes, and a reassuring sense of camaraderie to help them survive -- and even thrive -- during each hilarious, frustrating, and amazing moment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wilder-Taylor Nails It - Again, April 13, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Naptime Is the New Happy Hour: And Other Ways Toddlers Turn Your Life Upside Down (Paperback)
All those who are a fan of Sippy Cups Are Not For Chardonnay will not be disappointed. Naptime is hilarious, honest, and as entertaining as Wilder-Taylor's first book, and much more, because she has been in the trenches and is now actually reporting on the current state of "mommy affairs" from the "field." The result is a funny, honest portrayal of "toddler" issues. Subjects ranging from potty training, big-kid bed transition, psycho mommies, at-home mom world issues, married sex, mom body changes, and much much more are handled with the author's signature wit and style. The author clearly lets all those moms unsuccessfully aspiring to "perfect mommydom" that they can "let it go" and that they are NOT alone. Check out her mathematical equations in the Chapter entitled "Supermom" or "Superliar" - hilarious!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wilder-Taylor Does It Again!, April 1, 2008
By
Becky Harks (Chicago, IL, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Naptime Is the New Happy Hour: And Other Ways Toddlers Turn Your Life Upside Down (Paperback)
The author of "Sippy Cups Are Not For Chardonnay" has scored a touchdown again for the Mommy crowd with her newest novel, "Naptime Is The New Happy Hour." She combines her razor sharp wit with some honest observations about how toddlers morph from sweet babies into sometimes intolerable and tantrum-filled creatures seemingly overnight.

Life with a toddler is chaotic, unpredictable, and absolutely not for the faint of heart, and this instant classic will be sure to help even the most confused parent navigate the sometimes choppy waters of toddler-hood, while making you laugh uproariously at her observations.

Wilder-Taylor does for the toddler-set what "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" does for the expectant mother: reminds you that you're not alone in any of this, not when Wilder-Taylor is holding your hand, making you laugh, and reminding you that what seems abnormal is really the new normal.

"Naptime Is The New Happy Hour" should be passed out in the hospital gift bags for all mothers (new or seasoned) because it's frank look at life with a toddler will prove an invaluable resource for years to come.

Thank you Ms. Wilder-Taylor for reminding me to laugh, relax, and have a (medicinal) drink, while I enjoy the ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must read for moms with a toddler, April 6, 2008
By
This review is from: Naptime Is the New Happy Hour: And Other Ways Toddlers Turn Your Life Upside Down (Paperback)
just as "sippy cups are not for chardonnay" should be required reading for all moms with a newborn, so should this book be for moms with toddlers. this book is laugh out loud funny, and the author has a unique and endearing way of putting the roller coaster of life with a toddler into perspective. i cannot recommend this book highly enough!
