Really relaxing music,

I really love this two-disk collection. The music is very peaceful and calming, while still being musically interesting. I find myself humming many of the melodies throughout the day, as they are very catching. This CD has had heavy playing time since I bought it; I listen to it while studying, reading, cooking, etc. It rarely ever gets stored on the shelf--more like a permanent home next to the cd player, if not *in* the cd player. All in all, this is a fantastic collection.

The Narada Decade collection contains some of the most hauntingly beautiful music ever written. In an age of disposable pop music, Decade's compositions are timeless classics, all. As a long-time fan of classical music, I place many of Decade's pieces on equal footing with the very best of Mozart, and Beethoven. Simply wonderful!!!

AN EXQUISITE INTRODUCTION TO THE RELAXING BEAUTY AND GRACE OF NEW AGE MUSIC (and to the excellent Narada Productions label),

This review is from: Narada Decade: The Anniversary Collection: Selected Works: The First Ten Years (2-CD Set) (Audio CD)
Narada Decade: The Anniversary Collection (1993) is a sort of "greatest hits" compilation of the New Age record label's first ten years.
New Age music is instrumental, relaxing and graceful. The primary instruments are piano, classical guitar, flute, oboe and violin, but songs may include other instruments as well. It's not classical music, but the two are somewhat related. New Age music is more spacious, relaxed, and modern than classical, and simply not as elaborate. Most of the time it's quite content to stay in the background. The songs are beautifully and irresistibly melodic, pristinely produced, and well performed. The men and women who play this music are accomplished musicians who have mastered their craft quite impressively. This 2-CD collection includes a variety of piano and guitar themed music along with plenty of combination pieces that feature all of the instruments that contribute to the New Age sound. One of my favorites here is Oaks, a Nancy Rumbel/Eric Tingstad/David Lanz effort from their Woodlands CD. It's a thoughtful and stimulating piano, flute and guitar collaboration. Disc 1 features songs from the Lotus subdivision of Narada, which is the quieter, more graceful side of the label. Disc 2 is a little more adventurous, and includes selections from Lotus as well as the other subdivisions of the label that feature world music, jazz, Celtic and fusion pieces. All are done in the meticulous and gracious Narada style. The music on this collection is of the highest quality. Sometimes it's moving, at other times sentimental, but it's always soothing and relaxing. Whether it's as an implement for thoughtful reflection, as background music while reading or just to set a relaxing mood, Narada Decade: The Anniversary Collection is a graceful, interesting and neatly produced musical selection.

CD #1 in this double album has three or four pieces that I really enjoy--Tingstad & Rumbel's due, Friedmann's mysterious mermaid composition and of course the wonderful "Cristofori's Dream", which was a big hit CD on its own. I ended up getting the individual albums for Tingstad & Rumbel, because I enjoyed their particular sound so much.At first, I didn't like CD #2 as well as CD #1, but now I listen to this almost as frequently. There are some Celtic-inspired pieces in particular that are very pleasant. The great thing about these samplers for me is that I can find artists I am not familiar with, and also there is so much variety that I can play it over and over without getting bored.

As a new fan of new age music, this two cd collection from 83-93 is a wonderful addition to my music library. The artist mix includes everything from acoustic(Eric Tingstad), to piano(Wayne Gratz). The songs make you feel you are in your own little world, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This two cd collection is very highly praised and worth every cent!

We have listened to this over and over again. It is definatly music to clear your mind by. Our 8 yr. old sleeps to it. We have passed it on to many of our friends who enjoy artists like Yani and others and they are sold. We are loyal Narada listeners!

I still remember the place and time I heard for the first time this CD, I was mesmerized and I bought it right away, since then I've been listening this precious music every time I want to feel relaxed or just to feel fine. One of my favorites CD's, I have bought several copies to give them a gifts to my loved ones. Both CDs are completely enjoyable, at the beginning I tended to heard more CD 1, but now I like them both as if they are a single one. I've listened these CD's for more than a decade and I'll be for sure listening for the rest of my life.

I love these two CDs included in this set. I was introduced to this by my father, who loves to listen to this music, too. He let me borrow the first CD for a day, and I kaifed(spelling is wrong, I know.....) it away from him the next week, and it has a permanent home in my room. It is one(Oh, all right, two,) of the best CDs I have ever listened to, making it in my top three with a Manhattan Transfer CD and a Maynard Ferguson CD.
Amazing songs, great for gift giving.

I believe I've played this CD, on average, once each week since I first came upon it in Spring, 1999. Atypically, each piece on the album is thoroughly enjoyable, and every one seems better than the one before it. Well represented are works by David Lantz and Paul Speer, and by David Arkenstone. Usually I skip around when playing a CD; this is my one and only exception. And everyone asks for repeats of "Behind the Waterfall".

Good intro to Narada, excellent album.,

A wide variety of styles and artists, this 2-disc set gives a good overview of Narada, great for those who haven't yet discovered some of the world's greatest contemporary musicians. An excellent album, with 1 cd of accoustic and 1 cd of electronic "new age". I have never much cared for electronic new age, but the accoustic music presented by the Narada artists is incredible. I'd have to say that most of the musical talent of today is concentrated in these aforementioned artists. Buy it, you won't be disappointed. I liked it so well that when my first copy got scratched up, I ordered it again, just so I could listen to it without skipping :) ****
