4.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, fun, gorey, all in one game!!! July 26, 2009
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I cant believe nobody has written a review on this. Shame on you all!

This game cracks me up everytime. Who doesnt want to slaughter junkies, crack heads, and drug dealers? Especialy with grenade launchers that cause the junkies to explode into pieces of blood and guts.

Its basicaly contra and double dragon mixed into one game. Its a side scroller but you can move up and down in a addition to foward and back. And you can play with 2 people at one time. The controls arent the greatest, a little sluggish in my opinion.

The game is about the bad guy characters. Every level reveals a new type of bad guy. First level is your basic junkie type guy in a trench coat. Next level is some kind of speed addict whos skinny, shirtless and hyper and (this is the best part) throws his used needles at you!!
After that you go into a meth lab, etc....

Its probably not at the same level as your contra or metroid, but its still fun/funny to play. Not because of the awesome gameplay, but because the bad guy characters and the gore of killing them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent arcade port marred by bad control scheme September 12, 2013

NARC is a high-energy, fast paced and intense adaptation of one of the most technically advanced arcade games of 1988, based around a pro-drug war propaganda scenario and storyline, with unique gameplay that combines shooter elements with the environment of the side-scrolling beat-em-up. Obviously, the game is not as graphically sharp and sonically rich as its arcade counterpart, but the core game still remains fun and engaging, and the details are all recognizable. NARC's Achilles' heel though, is its poor adaptation of the arcade game's control scheme. The A button is used to fire both your machine gun and missile launcher, dependent upon whether you hold the button down or tap it, respectively. The game is very picky about this, however, and it's strange that the missile function wasn't relegated to the select button, which the control scheme makes no use of whatsoever. This results in many a premature game over borne out of trying to fire missiles vs. bullets and vice versa. The best workaround I've developed thus far is to double tap the A button in the way one would double click a computer mouse to fire missiles. Similarly, The B button is used to both crouch and jump based upon the same hold/tap scheme, but it is both less finicky and not as essential to gameplay. NARC is enjoyable and draws you in, but its serious control issues unfortunately mar an otherwise great game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy game September 1, 2013
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
NARC is an over-the-top,violent,run n gun game, where you play as a blue cop (player one) and/or a red cop (player two) and use a machine gun and rockets to destroy druggies.Alot of these characters that you battle in NARC are so ridiculous, they are hillarious...for example, the long haired Shawn Michaels-look a like in level two,who throws his used needles, that causes you to get stunned.NARC caused a whirlwind of controversy when it was first released back in 1988 for it's drug refrences and violence, but compared to these newer video games nowadays,it's quite silly. The music in NARC is pretty good,as it pumps you up and gets you into the game's action pretty quickly. There is a bit of a challenge, but once you get the hang of it,it's not that bad.Overall,I recommend NARC if you are looking for a two player action game, with a mix of dark humor, tons of violence and good music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious! May 13, 2013

The controls are not very fluent, you can only shoot in two directions, and you need a Turbo Controller like the NES Max Pad if you want to be able to fire full auto or control when you use the missiles, otherwise they come out at random and you can only fire single shots. That being said, this is still a good game because it's a laugh and a half to play. Such hilarious aspects of this game include gaining extra points by picking up drug paraphernalia, having enemies throw used needles at you, seeing the pictures of the enemies before the levels begin, and the fact that the playable character looks like a Power Ranger make this game worthwhile. It's no masterpiece of gameplay, but it's funny. Remember: Crack is Whack.
