Book Description

December 8, 1997 0761906630 978-0761906636 1

From setting up the fieldwork to writing up the research, this volume takes readers through the narrative approach to qualitative research with a focus on organization studies. Inspired by the work of Bakhtin, Eco, Rorty and Silverman, the author demonstrates that narratives are still the main carriers of knowledge in all societies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Worthwhile Approach to Research, Finally, February 21, 2008
By
This review is from: A Narrative Approach to Organization Studies (Qualitative Research Methods) (Paperback)
I have taken Research Methods over and over again as an undergraduate and graduate student. I've read all of the "classics", but when I wanted to take a unique approach to my thesis research, I didn't think I could find something so suitable and unique. This author eloquently describes the pitfalls of over-referencing (too many citations cause the author to write nothing new and nothing of value). This approach to research is not focused on error-proofing research results. In fact, the focus in on telling a story. The author encourages readers to tell the whole story and to include the self, making the research admittedly subjective. For the first time I felt like I was able to use a very legitimate research method where I didn't have to spend most of my time anticipating potential weaknesses - instead I just got down to business in a way that felt relevant. Finally!
