Editorial Reviews

Review

"What a gift to education! By practicing the ideas in this book, school counselors everywhere can help create new descriptions and stories that will transform the academic lives and behaviors of their students. Not only will schools be practicing what they have been preaching in the way of promoting respect from their students, they will receive that respect back in return." (Linda Metcalf, Author 2006-06-02) --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

I have been in the field of counseling for over 12 years and this is by far one of the best books I have read. It is practical, drenched in theoretical exploration and easy to understand. The authors make their case in a variety of ways that forces you to think about how you think about labels, descriptors and how you can best help your clients in a culture that is based in labeling. Fantastic! EJW, LCPC

As a high school social worker I appreciated the tone of this book. It was written with a clear objective to help in the present moment vs. other texts that are more theory based. This book seems to be created for mental health professionals throughout public education.

Excellent approach and creative suggestions. This book offers a fresh perspective on school counseling that American schools would do well to consider.
