The Bond is sort of Broken...,

Given how totally awesome Rise of a Ninja was, I was eagerly anticipating this game. There are some changes in this here sequel tho'...and I gotta say, not all of them are good. However like it's predecessor, for Naruto fans it's still a big slice of ninja heaven.
Honestly this one is not as well thought out as the last one was. While Rise of Ninja was literally the "Best Way to Make a Game Out of the First 80 episodes of Naruto"... there are some things about Broken Bond that I could have lived without. This still falls into the category of a "Must Own for Any Self-Respecting Naruto Fan," but it's not as flawless as the pervious offering. But there is some new stuff that's good. For instance you are given the opportunity of using more characters for the main quest instead of just Naruto. Which makes sense given the story, and makes things more interesting in both the quest and fighting gameplay. The fighting controls also seem to feel a bit less stiff. Also, they straight up give you the option of playing the game with the Japanese voice cast, which apparently for some people higher up on the Otaku Nerd food chain than myself is an absolute necessity. The basic mechanics of utilizing Jutsu to progress through the game, etc are still the same (which is good). My main beef with this game is this: In Rise of a Ninja each mission was different and was planned to help advance the story. With Broken Bond each mission is just a fetch quest with some fighting. And it's crazy repetitive. And after a while it gets kind of annoying. Like to the point where the word "insipid" isn't too far off. The context of earning the respect of the Hidden Leaf villagers helped to answer the question of "Why Am I Doing This Again?" in Rise of a Ninja. You're going to be asking yourself that question a lot more in Broken Bond...and most of the time your just not going to get an answer. Additionally, they broke from using the actual series animation in some of the cut scenes. Some folks might like that better. I didn't. While the graphics engine makes for a great visual representation of the series animation - I wasn't feeling it cut scene wise. That's just me. That aside, this is still a great game. All of the goodness from the 60 or so episodes from the second part of the series is in there. The epic battles are still awesome, graphics are still great, and when the game isn't making you backtrack for some inane fetch quest - it's fun-as-all-git-out. While I recommended buying an Xbox 360 just to play Rise of the Ninja, or playing it even if you aren't a Naruto fan - I wouldn't make the same suggestions with this game. If you own an Xbox 360 and are a Naruto fan, then yes, you should totally own this. All and all this is still a great Naruto game.

It wasn't as good as I expected...,

Well, when I first saw this game on amazon, I thought that it would be awesome because this is like the most epic part of the naruto story apart from the part about Pain. The story of the whole thing is amazing but this game just did not live up to my expectations. First of all, the fighting style was horrible, don't get me wrong, there were enough moves to have a little diversity but mostly you can only use the one main combo and like three jutsus for each person. Second the characters mouths barely moved at all when they talked during the cutscenes, it looked like the anime Bleach.
But those things aside, the story rocked as most of Naruto does. I loved how this game actually had the sound ninja four in it while the Naruto wii game does not. I really wish that they could've let you actually control the people, because during the jutsu everything just stops while you perform it, you should just be able to like throw a rasengan at them and then keep pummeling them. But during the final fight against Sauske he has all of these combos that he can do while you only have the two that they teach you. I enjoyed the rage thing but I think that you should still be able to make the opponent lose life while they're in rage and it seemed like my rage was used up way faster than any of my opponents. Lastly they put in all of these annoying extra parts in the story mode and while I was finishing them I kept thinking "when am I going to get to the real story". Well when I did get to the real story I realized why they included all of these extra parts; it was because the real story only took me like an hour and a half to beat. But I enjoyed the Naruto story but the game could have used some work so don't just go by what I said, use your own judgement about buying this game. Thanks for reading. :)

I bought this recently for my nephew and it is a good deal of fun. I don't think it is as good as "Rise of a Ninja," but good enough. The lack of civilian missions is a bit disappointing. Overall, a fairly good game.

Well, I'm a big Naruto fan and this was my first OWNED game I got for it.
I've played almost all the other games before this one because of renting and my friends. I do have to say the graphics they were trying to create were great and it follows the anime pretty well good even though the anime has a lot of useless points. Like in the game how you had a bunch of random tasks that seemingly only got you characters but they didn't have much with the main overall plot. But I liked how they tried that. It made it so you could get used to their controls for their fights with the Sound four. As annoying as I found it, It was better then them giving you the character and you having to figure it out on your own. I really wish they could've added some more in there too; the gameplay lacks a long time frame...it only took me 6 hours over 7 days to beat it on the hardest level. But I get how they were trying to follow the part of Sasuke leaving. On thing I found the most annoying thing was doing the Jutsus, it's not like they gave you the name unless you went into your list. You just had to remember it, which means when you mess up well...darn! I do say it is better then most of the others I've played which seem to be fighting games purely. Of course if you love those kinds of games then sure; but this at least you got to do other things and walk around maps instead of just pure fighting or a cutscene then fighting. Overall I think it was a really fun game. |
